The gap between Gomez and Van Dijk when the ball come down out right is huge. Gomez goes over and leaves a huge hole. Watch how deep Frimpong drops off to go with his man, the defensive line doesn’t follow. Very poor. #LFC

What we need to build is the suffocating of teams on the break, like under JK. Seen bits tonight, front 4 are doing the key work in the opposition half, around their box as a result. More mobility in midfield, Nyoni a protector allows a back 2 at tjmes with him in front. LASK can’t get out. #LFC

It’s funny. I said Carrick might be doing ok with 1 game a week, but there were warning signs when they played twice at the end of the season. Stick or twist again for them. Like many teams you can’t replace enough players in one or two windows these days.

This is my point. By “law” the ref can stake w claim to be correct but I want to watch 11 vs 11. As someone who watches a lot of football, the ease at which yellows are dished out means too often I’m turning over because of stupid red cards. Yesterday didn’t have tackles that warranted them.

You can’t analyse games that turn on the peep of a ref’s whistle. Lots to like today and lots to improve but for any side to lose a player for two yellows like that is awful in a top league. I hope the PGMOL have to answer questions on that. Ruined a tight and tough game. #LFC

Just seen the Canadian leagues daylight rule on offsides, think I prefer it. Rather than finding a reason to disallow goals, it surely swings the other way, clear daylight might be on some calls but majority of goals just stand. #offside Easier for grassroots too.

One thing I will say re Wirtz is the areas of the pitch he’s doing his on the ball work in - it’s far deeper than his Bayer role. This team is still adapting to being in and out of possession in our systems, the movement by others isn’t the same yet either. #LFC

There’s a lot of annoyance over yesterday but I sort of expected it. Iraola sides need to run, full backs overlap, lots of movement, 3 days after Atletico. AI didn’t change enough for me. We need to get the ball to Wirtz & Co earlier, but we lack progressive passing from deep. #LFC
