Similarly, but on a smaller scale, London Loop Section 21 crosses the A12 and the official route takes you some distance along the road to traffic lights and all the way back again; we walked straight across and I suspect many people do too.
Extract of the map for London Loop Section 21 showing that the natural route, following a river, goes straight ahead but a diversion is given to take you to a safe crossing place.

Walking #LondonLoop Section 20, guided by @gojauntly.bsky.social, took me around and across several fields in a rural area that was part of Essex until 1965 and, frankly, should have stayed there. It is quite pretty but it is not London.
A landscape scene with a recently ploughed field in the foreground and more fields and trees behind. No buildings, cars or people.

While we are repeatedly being told that AI is about to make everything much better and easier, Apple Maps is telling me that I need to cross Barnes Bridge, do a small loop and then cross it again back to where I started in order to get to my destination. #AIsucks

Quite an attractive entry for #FingerpostFriday but one that hardly qualifies as on the section of Thames Path from Richmond Lock to Kew Green there are no opportunities to turn off so the direction signs are pointless, the distances are useful though.
