#OnThisDay in 1761 George III and Queen Charlotte were married 💍 Kew Palace was one of the places where they spent some of the happiest years of their marriage, enjoying a rural family life away from the formality of court. After the King became ill in 1789, they led increasingly separate lives

Have you ever spotted these carved heads at Hampton Court Palace? 👀 These eavesdroppers in the Great Hall served as a constant reminder to King Henry VIII's courtiers that their every word was being overheard. The hammerbeam roof was also originally painted in striking blue red and gold. 🖌

#OTD in 1840 Queen Victoria married Prince Albert 💍 It was the first royal wedding to be arranged with the enjoyment of the London public in mind. Victoria travelled in an open carriage so everyone could see her! 👋 She wore a white satin court dress, a style followed by many brides ever since 👰‍♀️

#Onthisday in 1901 Queen Victoria died. She was 81 years old and had reigned for 63 years, 7 months and 2 days 👑 She was born at Kensington Palace in 1819, she opened the palace to the public in 1899 🏰 She had already opened Hampton Court, a palace in which she never lived, to visitors in 1839.

#Onthisday in 1818 Queen Charlotte died at Kew Palace 🏰 Charlotte died surrounded by her daughters Augusta and Mary, the Prince Regent and the Duke of York 🕯️ Her coffin lay in the dining room at Kew, lit by six candles in large silver candlesticks, before being taken to Windsor Castle.
