Alt text serves as a lot of different purposes, too! All of which improve accessibility (for more than just people with vision-impairments). I use it quite often to understand memes and read fine-print screenshots.

Why use alt text? (6 panel comic)

Slow internet
Alt text is shown in place of unloaded images
Drawing of a browser screen with a social media post and a square for a photo that has text in it instead of a picture

Findability
Alt text helps to search content
Browser search screen
Search query: "dog with banana"
Social media post search return has a banana in it

Screen readers
Alt text is read out to people using text-to-speech software
Picture of.a black screen with white text and an arrow pointing to it saying "alt text"

Translation
Alt text can be translated
Google translate English to German output
"Haha ein hund" over a picture with German alt text describing a dog.

Readability
Text in images can be made legible
Stick man with a hard-to-read speech bubble.
Alt text pointing to speech bubble: "character says 'hello guys'"

Disambiguation
Description helps clarify intent
Picture of what could be a duck with its beak open or a rabbit with its head tilted up, ears tilted back. Alt text reads "my pet bunny"

in my heart, I want a giant dog. in my brain, I wouldn't be able to take care of one. in my flesh and bones, giant dog = giant heated weighted pillow

Beginning the slow process of reposting art here, my Sona design sheet and a lil animated loop featuring him

A character design sheet. In the right is a full body coloured drawing, he is a humanoid made of black smoke, wearing ripped jeans, a hoodie and sweater. He has a long thin tail and a white full-face mask with horns and eye holes only. The left of the page is annotates sketches of details, including smoky wings, a hand and a closeup of the face and mask

An animated loop of the same character. His hair and the drawstrings of his hoodie move with the wind.

More (assassin) Cleo :D She's not nearly as cool as she looks #dnd #d&d #furry #anthro #oc

A full-body drawing of Cleo, an anthro fox-like character with orange fur and a cream colored underbelly; large, pointed ears that have dark brown tips; a big tuft of fur on top of her head that is dark brown at the ends; and dark brown fur on her hands and forearms.
She wears a mostly featureless white mask with two large eye holes, which have glowing blue eyes inside. The eyes look relaxed, but also somewhat threatening. Cleo is sitting on a wooden bench backed with red velvet cushioning. Her pose is nonchalant; the left leg is crossed and the right leg is bent up over it, her left arm is resting on her right leg and her right leg is propped up on the back of the bench. She is leaned to the side slightly. In her right hand, she holds a gleaming silver revolver across her face.
She is wearing an off-white button-up shirt; a green vest; a brown belt; tan pants; and dark brown boots.
She is backlit by glowing magenta text that reads "A good song NEVER DIES", and she is covering up most of the word "DIES". The background behind the text is dark purple.

Today, my gf's Minecraft character Wolfie in a style inspired by the TMNT IDW Collection covers. Tomorrow? Who's to say :D #furry #oc #minesona #minecraftoc #landoffools

A bust shot of Wolfie Burrito, an anthropomorphic wolf with gray and white fur. His left eye is blue, and he has an eyepatch over a large, scarred, bald patch around his right eye. His right ear is missing its top half. He has a serious, unpleasant look on his face.
He is wearing an off-white button-up shirt and brown suspenders. He is shaded in a stylized, painterly style with some cross-hatching.
He is against a cream colored background with large, black brush strokes and splotches around him. To the left is a blue bar with a zigzag pattern on it that has "LAND OF FOOLS" written vertically in white text on it. In the bottom right corner is a white box that has black text inside it, which reads "Season 3 / Volume #1".

More of @jacklark.bsky.social's #d&d character, Vale :) #dnd #tabaxi ##eatoranbadlandscampaign

A drawing of Vale, a sand cat tabaxi, over a post. The post is edited to look as if it is posted by Vale Lolfur.
Vale has sandy tan fur with dark brown stripes on her arms, legs, and tail and a cream colored underbelly. He has a big, black nose; green eyes; and big ears. He is wearing three black necklaces, one with a golden charm hanging from it; a pale sage green poncho with lighter green stripes and zigzags embroidered into it; a gold bracelet and a gold ring, both on her left arm.
Vale is sitting in a chair in a casino with slot machines in the background. He has a pissed expression on her face. The post reads "I don't see how people go to the casino and lose thousands... I just lost $5 and I'm thinkin about blowing this whole casino up and everybody in it."

Do y'all remember Nikola? Anyways here's his dark world/larping character design, 'The Great Mechanical Mage, Castillo Archimedes' (totally not inspired my an animated pony I swear) #d&d #dnd #tiefling #oc #ironside2campaign

A bust colored sketch of Castillo Archimedes; a tiefling with dandelion colored skin; big, deer-like ears; a pair of horns that swirl together like a unicorn horn with a small, bronze gear hanging from their points; long, curly, orange hair; a mustache and long, curly goatee; orange eyes and tinted glasses. He has a concerned look on his face.
He is wearing a dark green coat and wizard hat with pale green gears embroidered onto them. The coat leaves his chest exposed, and on his chest, there is a multicolored, heart-shaped stained glass window lined in bronze.

Magical girl-esque destress drawing :D #myart #traditionalart #markerdrawing

A marker drawing of a dark skinned girl with brown eyes and dark brown waist long dreadlocks that are dyed mint at the ends. She is wearing a dark blue bow in her hair, a yellow sweater with a purple bow that has a dark pink heart, a light purple skirt with bows on the side and dark yellow ruffles, light blue and purple socks, and dark blue, purple, and yellow shoes with light blue wings and hearts attached to the sides. She is facing forward, her head slightly to the right, striking a pose with a lighthearted smile and wink, raising a hand in greeting. She looks excited.

Messing around with a comic idea for an original story based loosely on a dnd campaign I was in. No clue if it'll ever turn into anything, but storyboarding this was kind of refreshing, having to do everything in pen. I'm excited to do more :3

A rough storyboard of a conversation between two characters; a dragonborn, Wes (W), and a humanoid with firey hair, Xenos (X). They are sitting around a campfire. Their conversation reads;
W: So...
W: You're a Phoenix, huh?
X: ...
X: *Snort*
X: What gave you that idea?
W: Hmph
W: Lucky guess, I s'pose...
W: But in all seriousness... How come? Becoming a Phoenix ain’t exactly somethin' that just happens to a person.
W: ...If you don't mind tellin'.
X: I do.
W: So, it wasn’t your choice then?

First posting attempt yippeee! Late night doodling #myart #furry #traditionalart

Doodles of an anthro cat girl in magenta, blue, purple, and green pen. She has straight messy hair pulled into a ponytail, she is wearing a sweater, jacket off the shoulders, and plaid skirt.

Drawing one is full body, she is standing with her back partially to the viewer looking back.

Drawing two is simple with her in a wide stance and question marks. Text reads "whuh".

Drawing three is from the shoulders up, she is looking over to the right curiously.

i have a lot of yearly traditions! one of them is that my Halloween icons are Sol cosplaying somebody from my current interest... but, uh, i drew him in Viking's outfit last year, so he gets to be DrTrog from Skyblock Kingdoms instead. [ #furryart #sfwfurry ]

lineless art of op's fursona, Sol, cosplaying as DrTrog from Skyblock Kingdoms. Sol is a black and orange canine with blue-orange heterochromia. he has long, frizzy hair and is wearing a lab coat, a button-up shirt, and a green tie. his eyes are solid color with a triangular spiral pattern and he has a scar across his snout. Sol's head is tilted down and he smirks as he looks up. the background is a mess of triangle patterns.

this is Leontids! he's my minecraft 'sona and protagonist of my mcyt series Beat The Game, and they're completely normal and not a literal hollow shell of who they used to be. have you seen him? now you have. [ #leontids ]

NameMC image of Leontids. he's a humanoid alien wearing a blue gradient hoodie and a white mask with triangle markings.

concept art of Leontids. he looks completely human and has shaggy shoulder-length hair and a goatee. most of the art has his mask on the side of his head instead of covering his face. there are drawings of him reaching inside a black void in his torso and pulling out a chest with a cheerful expression.

art of Leontids holding up his mask. he has a shadow over his face and his eyes are solid white. his goatee is gone (although he's still scruffy) and he has small feathery wings. his mask is labeled "Leontids, he/they. living mask, inspired by Mathonwy from SwitchOut, can possess inanimate creatures". his body is labeled "previously Leontids, empty shell (literally), possessing himself..?, not human"
