#IsmuasMonthOfMusic Day 8: a song that makes you think of a crowded nightclub Sally MacLennane - The Pogues …and the crowded nightclub in question is Crocs aka The Pink Toothbrush. every Saturday (“alternative night”!) the evening ended with this song, without fail 👍 youtu.be/Mz8THBdHRyI?...

#ClocktoberMusic 8. Summer In Siam - The Pogues proof (if it was ever needed) about the immense talent of MacGowan’s songwriting. always evolving, never sticking to the “winning formula”. the minor disappointment is we never got more of this as it ended a sublime era youtu.be/66quTi26YLY?...

#IsmuasMonthOfMusic Day 7: a song that feels strangely peaceful No Distance Left To Run - Blur an adult break up song. accepting the finality of the situation, with compassion for the past and determination about the future. strangely peaceful indeed. youtu.be/dgA_DlR8WsM?...

fallen a little bit behind the music challenges as a planned trip to the West Country and an unplanned barney with my sister got in the way! but onwards and upwards, and to paraphrase some dodgy old punk band, London is currently calling 👍

#IsmuasMonthOfMusic Day 6: a song that uses a secondary dominant I Want You (She’s So Heavy) - The Beatles “….driving me mad” - an almost ugly secondary dominant chord there, emphasised by Lennon’s gutteral howl around 4:30 youtu.be/tAe2Q_LhY8g?...

#ClocktoberMusic 6. I’ll Follow The Sun - The Beatles as this beautiful song is about looking forwards i think it qualifies for this category. amazed the read that McCartney started to write this when he was 16, what a ridiculous talent that man has 🙂 youtu.be/28d_A_NuJ7A?...

#ArtistFaveNonAlbumSingles 6. We Can Work It Out - The Beatles just one of those effortless McCartney melodies that make the world feel like a better place. and improved further by Lennon’s middle eight that compliments the song, not contradicts like some people assume youtu.be/Qyclqo_AV2M?...

maybe. that’s quite a generous take on the situation. unfortunately he has a tendency to be a gossip who revels in spreading bad news about people. my worse fear is i fed him with positivity and he doesn’t know what to do with it 🤷‍♂️ a shame, because he will always have my love and best wishes 👍

i mean, wtf? was i supposed to lie about how good looking i am !?! 😂😂😂😂 (disclaimer: joke)

cheeky sod! note how i didn’t say how long i was retired for - i might have to go back to work in 10 years time 😂😂😂

well i wasn’t a massive fan of Jim Morrison and his mostly sixth form poetry pretensions, but he was right when he said people are strange!

#IsmuasMonthOfMusic Day 5: a song that makes you laugh The Art Of Falling Apart - Soft Cell i know i shouldn’t laugh, as the song is a cry for help. but the awareness of the situation, brilliantly witty lyrics, and an incredible backing track - it just makes me smile 🤷‍♂️ youtu.be/LQ0FSPmgMfc?...

#ClocktoberMusic 5. Youth - Soft Cell such an incredibly mature song, describing the passing on time we will all experience if we are lucky. hard to believe this was written by two people in their early twenties. Johnny Cash should have covered it on of his Rubin lps youth.be/AeMKifT1zMA?...

it’s just nuts. i want everyone i know from “the good old days” to succeed and live happy and healthy lives. …..and regarding my comment about getting better looking by the day: please don’t confuse my cheeky self deprecating humour with arrogance! 😂

it’s why i never bother with Facebook. i went to a tough school, and even though we left 40 years ago the “oneupmanship” is still prevalent. and i thought it was all of a nonsense when we were 16 years old in a playground 🤷‍♂️

i had a school buddy i’ve known for over 45 years message me and ask how life was treating me. unfortunately i made the mistake of giving a positive answer. i haven’t heard back since, and that was nearly a week ago. then i remembered: some people don’t do friendship, they just do competition

the joy and wonder of music, part 4102. It’s Raining Again by Supertramp has suddenly become my favourite song of all time (for probably no more than the next 5 minutes 😂). it’s unashamedly delightful, and most certainly not something i’d have admitted to liking as a younger man trying to be cool!

it never fails to hit me on every level whenever i hear it: emotional, intellectual, critical, at a gut level, you name it! the massive irony is the first time i probably heard this song was when Bowie did an insipid cover version on his awful Tonight lp. so not the greatest of starts! 😂

#IsmuasMonthOfMusic Day 4: a song you wish you could hear for the first time again… God Only Knows - The Beach Boys a bit of a cheat really, because every time i hear this absolute masterpiece of lyric, melody and arrangement i always pick up on something new! youtu.be/M0lj3WX_5ps?...

#ClocktoberMusic 4. Time To Get Alone - The Beach Boys this period of their career absolutely fascinates me. no intriguing arrangements, everything simplified, and yet the vocals still make the songs sound massive. and there is always a chord change present that startles! youtu.be/cxqmRp03hHQ?...

well, even we did a straight swap with managers that would be a good start!

seems only fair to me that in light of the findings, Man City are immediately relegated and the team that finished third bottom last year gets reinstated to the Premier League. which happens to be West Ham. i think it’s also reasonable for West Ham to assume the points Man City have won this season!

agreed. i always asked to listen first before i bought / traded because sometimes the sound quality was atrocious!
