SS Justin Lebron had a very disappointing draft year, falling to the 18th overall draft pick, as a huge raw skills guy with with superstar upside, and concerns of being a total bust. I think he’s partially rewritten the story of his season with his strong pro debut in Dayton. #Reds

Austin Hays was DFA’d, still owed $1.7m (plus +$1m buyout?). He hasn’t played since May 1, but just completed a rehab assignment. Once he’d released I hope #Reds can sign him at MLB minimum as a short side platoon bench bat. He posted a 155 wRC+ vs LHPs in 2025, and 123 wRC+ vLHP for his career.

Hector Rodriguez, I’m excited for his Reds debut. I’ve figured for weeks he would debut today, after the trade deadline. Any talk of preserving ROTY eligibility for 2027, IMO, totally misunderstands and outlook for a bat-first LF/DH. Sal is unlikely to win ROTY, and Hector sure won’t. #Reds

Both SS Justin Lebron and INF Eric Becker played three years in college. Both were rated higher after their sophomore season than after their draft/junior year. Important to remember that the goal is to add the best available player, not merely the popup guy with the biggest draft season. #Reds

Some thoughts on #Reds pick Justin Lebron. 18 picks into a draft class, and lacking sure things, they chose an upside play, with raw skills and huge upside, but really needing development. Could've gone higher, or lower, depending on who took that bet. Scouted for years, coming off worst year.

Some #Reds prospects who deserve midseason promotions: CF Carlos Jorge, age 22. Ending ~900 PA in advanced A ball, he had a breakout season in 2025. Moving to AA in 2026, he’s only been better in 245 AA PA (10.2 BB%, 18.4 K%, .416 OBP, 136 wRC+). Not bad for an elite defensive CF. Ready for AAA.

I'm very skeptical that LF/RF/CF/2b/1b Sam Haggerty will ever play for the #Reds, but I'm happy to see him reinforce a Louisville Bats roster that has now lost CES, Hinds, Dunn, and Bleday. Friedl was the only real CF option in Friedl, Hector Rodriguez, Austin Hendrick outfield.

After his ugly start to the 2026 season (43 wRC+, -0.6 fWAR) #Reds OF TJ Friedl really needed a reset in AAA, playing regularly. He really needed to show he could still hit to ever earn his way back to MLB. In his first 36 PA, his 170 wRC+ and .444 OBP is certainly promising. Good for him.

The #Reds needed to win, but almost lost when a double play ball bounced off the starting pitcher and resulted in three runs scoring. Fortunately, three homeruns and a walk off saved the day, with the help of strong pitching. Lowder’s rehab start also went well, so Paddack is now a bullpen arm.

One #Reds prospect who deserves some attention - a 22 year old known best for his elite glove in CF, and stolen bases. Carlos Jorge, in his first 152 PA in AA, has 5 HR, 13 SB, 10.5 BB%, 17.8 K%, .421 OBP, 140 wRC+. He spent two full seasons in A+ before this, now having his best year.

#Reds SS/2b Edwin Arroyo, age 22, is having a really strong season in AAA, with a 156 wRC+. He’s a switch hitter, and posting a crazy .373 BABIP, driving his .402 OBP. As a switch hitter, he has two swings. LHB vRHP he has 8 HR in 145 ABs, with a 1.091 OPS. RHB vLHP, 2 HR in 50 AB, .728 OPS.
