Happy St George's Day. A reminder that half of England is owned by less than 1% of the population. Some of these aristocratic landowners have inherited land since the Norman Conquest. England needs land reform and a strong Community Right to Buy! whoownsengland.org

Great news that DEFRA might finally open up data on soils in England. It sounds niche but it's super-important for everything from restoring peat bogs to protecting most fertile agricultural land. I first wrote to DEFRA about doing this in *2016*... 😮‍💨 bsky.app/profile/owen...

Hello Bluesky folks. I've transferred from X. I'm the Director of Landscape Recovery at the Wildlife Trusts and fascinated by the interaction between politics and nature's recovery. Want to see a cleaner, greener and more peaceful world. So do follow, Rob.

Planning isn't a "chokehold" on growth. It's there to ensure sustainable growth. Bats didn't hold up HS2. Politics & mismanagement did. Sad to see the Prime Minister's caricature of regulators as blockers. It'd be utter short-termism to ditch planning rules for a quick economic hit.

Plant nerd help required I need to chart a number of common and rarer UK grassland species in the U.K. with their growth time to setting seed I guess from spring or after a grazing event To show what thrives with different recovery/rest periods

Nice to see some farming friends on the train down to London for today’s protest. Then to hear from citizens at the @ffc-commission.bsky.social Food Summit today. Both want reform of a broken food system that is costing us all £268 billion every year and harming people and planet

The very first National Parks were created under the post-war Labour government - we need this government to reform them and resource them properly!
