I’m seeing narratives that the appropriate thing to do is to keep them in the PL because their players would be the wrong standard for lower leagues. They bought those players by breaking rules. Now they get to avoid punishment BECAUSE they broke rules?

Usually it would be difficult to expel a team with 5 matches played. Since nobody has got any points from that team, it’s actually very straightforward in this case.

I keep hearing that there’s less jeopardy in the Swiss system. I think that’s a misunderstanding. It’s very rare that a team could have nothing to play for with a third of their matches remaining. Whereas such a scenario became all too common in the old system.

When I was young, it didn’t seem possible that FIFA could achieve such a feat. It’s been quite a turnaround over the last 30 years as, against all odds, they’ve managed to become more corrupt than the IOC.
