One of my absolute favorite things at the Minnesota State Fair is the naturalization ceremony, swearing in new citizens. I don’t know anyone on the stage, but seeing those smiling faces, waving little American flags makes me so happy for them. It hasn’t even started yet and I’m getting teary.

When I was a kid, my first out-of-market MLB game was at Dodger Stadium. 1988. I got to watch Fernando Valenzuela dominate the Astros (pre-interleague, when HOU was still in the NL) in a 11-1 W. Been a fan since, but I am so disappointed with the players this week. What happened, guys?

We had to take down a massive sugar maple in the backyard. Most of it will become firewood, but it was a beautiful old tree and I would like it to remain beautiful in another form. I have these slabs, free to anyone who can give this wood a second life as something else. Pick up in Hopkins.

Now that I know Delaware North (Twins food & bev vendor) uses their “charity” booths as a way to both pay fewer employees, and denigrate those fighting for a fair contract, I shan’t ever patronize those booths at Target Field again. It’s been a PR stunt the whole time.
