Weird take in the FT - surely increasing financial independence is as much of a factor as lab diamonds?
Screenshot saying "Women are buying their own diamonds now, the chief executive of jewellery maker Swarovski has said. Lab-grown options were “enabling self-purchase” compared with traditional mined diamonds, “where in most instances it was a man offering a ring to a woman”, said Alexis Nasard."

A comment from today’s #polyfutures that I will be using elsewhere. When something is complex, you can try to force simplicity on it, or you can try to bring clarity, and it’s important to understand the difference.
A post it that says “difference between simplicity and clarity” and has the Polyfutures hashtag

I picked up my new bike on Monday. I have cycled more this week than any time since I was at uni in the Netherlands (1992). Let’s hope I keep it up.
A picture of a super cute green city bike parked in a front hallway. The bike is iridescent green and has quite small chunky wheels. It has a bag rack on the front.

Coda: advice from the co founder of Anthropic is ‘study the humanities’ fortune.com/2026/02/07/a...
"I actually think studying the humanities is going to be more important than ever," she explained. "A lot of these models are actually very good at STEM. But I think this idea that there are things that make us uniquely human
—understanding ourselves, understanding history, understanding what makes us tick-l think that will always be really, really important. And I think the ability to have critical thinking skills and learn how to interact with other people will be more important in the future, rather than less."
