Inspired by Day of the Triffids, Silent Night by @emmaread.bsky.social reminds me a little of ‘The Last of Us, but for kids aged 11+. A cracking read which will have children on the edge of their seats.

Really enjoyed this debut poetry collection by Julie Hare @tortoise1hare2.bsky.social. Loved the environmental theme running through the book. My class have already dipped into it several times for Poem of the Day. @redgierob.bsky.social

I believe this is why we should encourage our children to write as often as possible. They may not be inspired every day, but as this quote attributed to Picasso implies, when inspiration strikes, they need to be writing in order to capture it.

Right we’ve all had a couple of weeks… What is your favourite book of the summer so far? I’ve very much enjoyed ‘Shadow Thieves’ by Peter Burton. A great Y5/6 text and for fans of Wild Boy, Ned’s Circus of Marvels, The Nowhere Emporium or Rooftoppers.

Many children enter school with a foundation in visual literacy, having been exposed to and engaged with film and animation from an early age. In educational settings, we can build upon this existing knowledge as a foundation for further literacy development.

We read 'The Dictionary Story' by @OliverJeffers for the first time last night. My 7-year-old wanted to join in and read all of the little words that had spilt from the dictionary. It would be great to use with children and introduce them to dictionaries.

It’s times like these that make me feel thankful to that headteacher who forced me out of school and had a quiet word with the school I was going to so that they withdrew the job offer. Literacy Shed was born just after! #OriginStory

Really helpful analysis of the 2025 SATs Reading paper from EdShed. Inference making dominates the marks scheme once more, whilst slightly shorter texts made the extracts more readable than recent years. @redgierob.bsky.social blog.edshed.com/2025-ks2-rea...
