In particular: Was portraying Catherine as having dissociative identity disorder a directorial choice, or just something happening in my head? I assume it’s not explicit in the novel. #EastOfEden

Watched #EastOfEden out of unfamiliarity with the source material. Not exactly a fun watch. Possibly the most relentlessly depressing costume drama out there. I am fascinated by its treatment of generational trauma though.

I pushed through whatever this horrible bug is to do the Paranormal Activity AD, and now I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck. I hope this isn’t another cursed ghost story tour (I had covid three times on 2:22.)

I know. Baffling. But I’ve literally had the conversation “Why would I want to take her to a baby sensory group? I’m not going to enjoy it”, because they don’t seem able to comprehend the vicarious joy of *watching their child have fun*. 😵‍💫

This is an extreme example, but what I have witnessed repeatedly in my life is *men waiting for their child to become interesting to them*. He would read the baby a book, if HE was interested in THAT book. But baby books don’t interest him.

Yes. The latest two seem to have been effectively boxed off by an earlier period of EMDR for PTSD, which makes sense when you consider that the whole aim was “don’t think about that, it isn’t happening to you now”. The more you know…

There’s eleven of us, as of last week. I know it makes sense if a lot of things, but it’s hard not to feel like I’m reaching the end of therapy crazier than I was at the start. 😆 #DID

(I mean, she was a woman walking along a pavement, and the crane operator and site foreman were male, so obviously she was asking to be horribly crushed by being female in public. 😒)

I agree about car brain, but I feel like our ability to comprehend risk is irrevocably broken. I was reading yesterday about someone killed when a crane dropped a pallet of bricks on her from 5 storeys up, and people were saying if she hadn’t been looking at her phone, she could have avoided it. 😵‍💫

Whilst the existence of this page is creepy, I am reassured that no fewer than six entries on mine confirm the exact preferences of my cat, but only one tentatively suggests I “probably” have a child. 😆

I think I’m just struggling to understand the mindset. I’d imagine reviving her, with all the pain and damage that might entail, is also pretty cruel and unusual. Even moreso if they can’t promise they won’t do it again. The notion of legal and ethical murder is absurd.

I don’t believe they should have (I’m anti capital punishment), but I am utterly fascinated by the precise point that the attitude in the room switched from “Kill her!” to “Save her!” Perhaps it’s because I’m not in the US, but I don’t understand where, morally or legally, that point exists.

Supplementary question: do I have to bring my own? Just preempting any future supply and demand issues…

I am all for free childcare being universal. I’m also keen on PIP remaining universal, but they aren’t, for some reason. 🤔

So the argument for AI here appears to be “AI will be wrong, but in ways you like the sound of”.

In no way am arguing that Pike is a good person, and maybe it’s because I come from a country that doesn’t (officially) legally kill people, but I’m really hazy on the precise point when “Yeah, kill her” became “Quick, bring her back!”.

Jane @redfoxglove.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I’m just reading the news on the failed execution of Christina Pike, and the morality of the US justice system never fails to baffle me. You decide to kill someone, fuck it up and then - actively try to keep her alive instead? Why? So you can do it again? Argue some more? What?

This particular journey can usually be done on a direct train in 45 minutes, but somehow it was a total fiasco. Two hours of it was just Doncaster to Sheffield, a distance of 19 miles. I paid for this experience.

(And watching the audience react to the jump scares, of course. That will never not be fun.) 😆 They’ve switched out “Angel” in the soundtrack for “Black Hole Sun”. It’s still giving #ViolasRoom.

Back on the tour trail for #ParanormalActivity. It’s becoming clear to me that the bits I really love in this is the darkness (real, not metaphysical) and the sensory overwhelm of the rising music. It just - transports you.

This is always a worry for me, as I use them a lot for work (and am often a lone female arriving at 11pm). Our budget is tight, though, so I’ve just had to set myself a rule of no private lets, and a hotel has to have 75+ varied reviews to be considered. 😕

How is it that I have bought half a dozen types of viral internet shapewear, and the ONLY thing that works for me is a pair of control top shorts I bought reduced to £4 at Primark, 12 years ago?

Ah fuck, I just saw Burnham’s “won’t cut social security for fund national security” thing, and felt a renewed sense of optimism and respect. That was a pleasant 17 minutes.

You are allowed to enjoy Sheeran. Other people are allowed to find him insipid. He sounds like 98% of middle class English boys with a guitar.

I absolutely agree, and sincerely hope that you do get to choose. I just have concerns about implementation, given the ongoing government narrative of disabled people being inconveniently expensive.

Jane @redfoxglove.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Both things can be true. You SHOULD have that option. But for there to be a genuine choice to die, there must be an alternative choice to live WELL. They could fix social care and end the threat to cut disability benefits tomorrow, if they wanted to. That would open a path to meaningful choice.

I agree that Burnham is an improvement, but let’s be honest, it was a staggeringly low bar. He could just about trip over it by happenstance.

Quite beyond the usual “YOU MEAN RAPE!!”, it’s fascinating that no one in the whole editorial process questioned how an unconscious woman could be “active verbing” anything other than “breathing”. 🤨

I have a history of actual psychosis, and I am likewise confident that the AI kind is not going to be an issue for me. If people outsource their imagination, I don’t know what they expect.

I saw this first, though… 😁
Image of the character Holly from TV show Red Dwarf. Played by Hattie Hayridge, the image is of the disembodied head of a white woman in her thirties, with straight blonde hair, floating in a dark void.

We’ve not had either suggested - we’re only just through the four year wait for diagnosis and meds, so she’s on first line amphetamines, which predictably - has not helped the sleep! 🙃 I will look into those, though - thank you.

We decided not to ban HP from the house, because the child’s peers may introduce her to it. Which is why, at the age of 5, we explained the author was a bully and we would not give her money. 8 yr old now scornfully brushes off HP as “books by that mean lady”. It’s more teachable than you’d think. 😏

Why does it have to be a use of the tech at all? We’ve got data centres sucking resources from actual human beings, so that chatGPT can badly write your emails, and you think the propaganda *I’m* falling for is the problem? The whole fucking bubble is propaganda.

It’s prescription only, here in the UK, on the basis that long term use fucks up your body’s ability to produce its own. Was surprised to see it on the shelf in the US. (Research is alarming, though, as my 8 year old literally cannot sleep without it. 🙁)

That’s been my experience in pretty much every European country I’ve visited. I strive hopelessly to say something intelligible, they look puzzled and sympathetic*, then answer in flawless English. *Except in France, where they look puzzled and irritated.
