RedFire @redfire512.bsky.social · 10/09/2026except based on what Chet (and Gary McTaggart in the HL2 doc), AND from some google searching, that’s not really what beta means in industry practice 000
RedFire @redfire512.bsky.social · 09/09/2026It's what these accuracy projects like Project 2009 do, they try to be as 1:1 to the available reference material as possible, even if those ideas only lasted a short amount of time. 010
RedFire @redfire512.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Even still, we try our best to make what we believe could be the closest to a "snapshot" of the game while it was in development at a given time, based on articles/code snippets/etc to try and replicate what it may have been like. 110
RedFire @redfire512.bsky.social · 09/09/2026There's a TF2 related project I work on (not Pre-Fortress 2) that involves us rebuilding the earlier revisions focusing primarily on 2006. Even here, we talk about it being the "TF2 beta" despite knowing just how much iteration can occur within just a few days. 110
RedFire @redfire512.bsky.social · 09/09/2026When people talk about a "Portal 2 Beta" or a "L4D beta", I'm sure they really just mean whatever snapshot of a stable staging build that was shown off at a given time. It may not be particularly accurate, but it gets the point across. 111
RedFire @redfire512.bsky.social · 09/09/2026"Beta" is often just referred to a catchall term in the general populace for any version of a game shown off prior to release. It's certainly not an accurate term, but it's become a weird colloquial thing that people (myself included) have adopted over the years. 221

RedFire @redfire512.bsky.social · 11/04/2026also looking to make a VST of this amp. it’ll be awesome 010
RedFire @redfire512.bsky.social · 09/04/2026granted there are a lot of people who also like the overdrive, since this amp is made for 80s metal (sold in the early 90s) so people who want those tones go for this, and then everyone else hates it lmao 000
RedFire @redfire512.bsky.social · 09/04/2026another good example. theres a few comments of people absolutely disliking the distortion but i absolutely love it www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SkZ...youtube.comFender M80 OverdriveYouTube video by Edgar Kurik 100
RedFire @redfire512.bsky.social · 09/04/2026it's so funny liking guitar gear that most people dislike. was looking at this video of the Fender M-80 and was enjoying the distortion, which is... the frequently disliked thing about this amp. maybe im the weird one but i love it www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbAc...youtube.comFender M80 Demo | Gear DemoYouTube video by Billy McGuire Music 110
