I already loathe the diesel rebate as an enormous fucking grift of a tax expenditure, it's a policy that needs to die, and it didn't occur to me that it would also apply to datacentre backup generators. Fucking hell that's absurd. au.news.yahoo.com/call-to-end-...

It's already illegal. Congress banned it near-unanimously in 2022. That law allows the ban to be lifted only if Russia withdraws from Ukraine. He's simply breaking the law that's already on the books.

reading what Chris Minns, Kellie Sloane, Alex Rivchyn, and Jeremy Liebler say about a Jewish event that had not yet occurred and they did not attend is very disorienting. The event was not provocative or sickening. Jews Against the Occupation 48 do not seek notoriety but peace. We deserve better.
"There are some people suggesting it can be stopped," he said.
"The Constitution doesn't allow that. They can certainly do that - it's not against the law - but as a citizen, I've got a right to make a judgment on it too.
"I think these organisers, in many cases, thrive on the notoriety and the attention they get," he said. Two protest groups - Jews Against the Occupation 48 and Wollongong Friends of Palestine - have organised separate vigils to be held on Wednesday.
The events have been widely criticised by Jewish groups, including Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-chief executive Alex Ryvchin, as well as Minns and NSW Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane.
Sloane on Tuesday labelled the vigils "sickening" and "provocative", while demanding Minns "show some leadership" by ensuring his Labor colleagues did not attend the events.

I think the backlash is driven by opposition office coz any business using credit for ATO payments is not really in business. IF ATO charged a surcharge for credit card payments, they wouldn't use anyway but just use their bank loan (for which they can claim interest payments as a cost to business).

Issy Mack @redferngal.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I don't get it. If a small business is paying quarterly BAS by credit card due to cashflow issues, the 20% interest rate will mean they're not in business long. Best explainer for using ATO cc payment is to save a few $$ on a bank loan, this always used to pay the monthly cc payment due.

Does that income of less than $37,000 include the superannuation part that is tax free? Or is just the taxable income? Is the rebate forfeited actually what they would have paid in medicare if super income was taxed?
