In Part 1, I'm looking forward to a character moment involving the defacto antagonist, a warmongering general who is ostensibly on the same side as the protagonist. Early on, he makes a fairly insulting gesture toward their host that is fittingly repaid to him in the final chapter of Part 1.

#HorrorWritersChat There is a LOT of seeds being planted, considering it's a story told in 3 parts of the course of several centuries where so many details will come up again later. I can highlight one particular moment though:

I like the angle of ambiguity in this one. Are the disappeared people being sacrificed? Are they being eaten by the plants?! Are they *becoming* the plants?!?! The world may never know.

#HorrorWritersChat At first, we were overjoyed when the fields overflowed with bounty, but as people gorged themselves over the coming months, they began to change... became greedier, more hostile. Physically, they grew subtly different. And the harvest kept growing, even through layers of snow.

I love the feeling when things just click like that, ESPECIALLY when it involves a final scene you're building up to 😁 Best of luck on your continued progress!!!

In a sense, it does not change the hard facts of the story. The outcome of what is going to happen will happen either way. It just adds a tragic element to the situation and the relationship for the protagonist.

#HorrorWritersChat In my current WIP, what is blooming is a diplomatic relationship! But there is definitely decay hiding beneath the surface for reasons that are *spoilers* (but I will say, because the protagonist is unaware of something that everyone else involved in the situation is aware of).

#HorrorWritersChat I write all types of horror and horror-adjacent genres. I'm pretty flexible, which helps when short stories are one of my main mediums. To answer Q1: a living being growing out of something non-organic, like a fully-developed human growing out of the side of a skyscraper.

That's a fun idea! I've definitely had at least one or two chapter titles inspired by song names or lyrics.

Maybe they're doing this for a reward if they survive for a certain length of time, or maybe it's just a curse they get to pass along after being stuck with it for a specified time period.

#HorrorWritersChat The protagonist is saddled with a cursed phone that has an endless Spotify playlist going at all times (and an unlimited battery life!). The genre of the current song influences the genre of horror they have to endure. The protagonist can choose the song or go with the flow.

#HorrorWritersChat Simple: David Bowie vs. a menagerie of aliens, from Xenomorph-style monsters, to shapeshifting Thing-style aliens, and even a few "humanity must be destroyed, convince us otherwise" type aliens for good measure 😛

#HorrorWritersChat I often listen to music while I'm writing, and commonly imagine what songs would go with specific scenes if my works were ever adapted, but I don't typically incorporate music into my works themselves. Maybe a generic mention of "this type of music was playing" to set the scene.

#HorrorWritersChat Hi 👋 I'm Michael, I write varied horror. I love a lot of classic music, but am starting to find more modern music I vibe with. Top 3 solo artists (bands are a whole different beast!) are Jim Croce, David Bowie, and Des Rocs 😎

Completely agree. I get that sometimes real events needs to be changed slightly to work better in a film narrative; but other times we get movies that are basically just *inspired by* real events, and they shouldn't have to or try to pretend otherwise.

#HorrorWritersChat Haven't set a release date yet, but I'm *definitely* releasing my second short story collection next month! Filled to the brim with horror and horror-adjacent tales. Keep your eyes peeled 👁 👀 👁 👀

#HorrorWritersChat Two shoutouts! Before high school, I did NOT enjoy writing, but my family had faith in me that I'd turn things around. I started writing short stories in 2012, posting on a forum I'm still part of to this day. The community has always been extremely supportive of its members!

#HorrorWritersChat Even though he's known more as a sci-fi writer, I'd love to share an author table with Ray Bradbury. He has a fair few horror or horror-adjacent works in his bibliography, PLUS he was also an incredible prolific short story writer 😌

#HorrorWritersChat I would love to HOST a panel about the horror of an irrevocable decision: a mistake that cannot be undone, words that cannot be unspoken, straddling the line between tragedy and horror.

#HorrorWritersChat Hi! I'll write just about any type of horror. That's why I especially love short stories. My current WIP is a story about internal strife in a warmongering nation that turns into a story about a cult that can transmute humans, whose leader believes he knows how to become a god 😉

This is my first time participating!! My fantasy adventure eldritch horror novel The Five Gods of Verdasa features two major instances of parasites: one is a core aspect of the plot, and the other is primarily part of a short body horror story in the appendices. www.amazon.com/dp/B0D9VTNK67

I back up, hyperventilating, as the creature turns around, staring at me with its cold, mindless eyes. "David...?" It spoke. I didn't know they could do that. "Are you ok? Why are you scared?"

Before my very eyes, my closest friend begins changing as the entity inside them molds their body into a more compatible form. I've seen what it's done to the others... turns them into violent, inhuman beasts.

Specifically, the idea that some people would lose themselves, while others would ultimately come to terms with or even enjoy their new state of being. This is especially poignant in cases where people *do* still have a choice in how they adapt.

#HorrorWritersChat I'm a big gamer and a huge fan of games like Axiom Verge and (recently) Look Outside that deal heavily with the concept of maintaining one's identity once someone is no longer (physically and/or mentally) identifiably human. I love to grapple with that dynamic.
1141
Red Dragon Press @reddragonpress.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
#HorrorWritersChat I'm a sucker for mental and psychological horror, so I'd prefer to lean into the mental aspects; though tying the two together makes for a *very* effective combo. Aspects of identity and what it means to be human pair well with physical transformation or body snatching.

#HorrorWritersChat Hi there! I write predominantly horror and horror-adjacent stories. I'm gonna go with the classic Facehuggers from Alien, though I also wanna give a shoutout to the cordyceps zombies from The Last of Us (even though it's not a horror game, the concept is very much horror).

As an author, I'm not always the best at coming up with names. So when I come up with a name that really sticks with me, I GO with that name and don't second-guess myself. I'm curious if any other authors struggle with names, or if you consider it to be your strong suit. #authorthoughts #writing

An agent from his old organization gets killed in the back of his cab, forcing him back into contact with the agency. The chief is an old friend of his and (very reluctantly) convinces him to pursue the case because the higher-ups don't believe the case is worth allocating resources toward.

- Holty: (High) Charisma, (Low) Dexterity; he's a former wartime spy who was able to worm out an important piece of information during the war, but he's VERY out of practice by the time the story comes around. (3/3)

Red Dragon Press @reddragonpress.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
- Jonas: (High) Intelligence; he's a detective who the police call on whenever they're stumped. Doesn't really have a "low" stat, but I'd say Constitution might fit the bill since he's on the older side. (2/3)

For the three protagonists of The Six Gods of Verdasa: - Advik: (High) Wisdom, (Low) Strength; he's a government auditor by profession and good at sussing out things that might be off. Not the most physical character. (1/3)

Planned from the start! From the beginning I knew that's how I wanted the story to be laid out, even if some of the finer details of the plot took some time to develop. I don't have any specific deadline, but ideally I'd like to be done within a year from now. No hard deadline however.
