#HorrorWritersChat The protagonist is saddled with a cursed phone that has an endless Spotify playlist going at all times (and an unlimited battery life!). The genre of the current song influences the genre of horror they have to endure. The protagonist can choose the song or go with the flow.

#HorrorWritersChat Simple: David Bowie vs. a menagerie of aliens, from Xenomorph-style monsters, to shapeshifting Thing-style aliens, and even a few "humanity must be destroyed, convince us otherwise" type aliens for good measure 😛

#HorrorWritersChat I often listen to music while I'm writing, and commonly imagine what songs would go with specific scenes if my works were ever adapted, but I don't typically incorporate music into my works themselves. Maybe a generic mention of "this type of music was playing" to set the scene.

#HorrorWritersChat Hi 👋 I'm Michael, I write varied horror. I love a lot of classic music, but am starting to find more modern music I vibe with. Top 3 solo artists (bands are a whole different beast!) are Jim Croce, David Bowie, and Des Rocs 😎

#HorrorWritersChat Two shoutouts! Before high school, I did NOT enjoy writing, but my family had faith in me that I'd turn things around. I started writing short stories in 2012, posting on a forum I'm still part of to this day. The community has always been extremely supportive of its members!

#HorrorWritersChat Even though he's known more as a sci-fi writer, I'd love to share an author table with Ray Bradbury. He has a fair few horror or horror-adjacent works in his bibliography, PLUS he was also an incredible prolific short story writer 😌

#HorrorWritersChat I would love to HOST a panel about the horror of an irrevocable decision: a mistake that cannot be undone, words that cannot be unspoken, straddling the line between tragedy and horror.

Red Dragon Press @reddragonpress.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

#HorrorWritersChat Hi! I'll write just about any type of horror. That's why I especially love short stories. My current WIP is a story about internal strife in a warmongering nation that turns into a story about a cult that can transmute humans, whose leader believes he knows how to become a god 😉

#HorrorWritersChat My hand jolts toward their neck. I can't stop it. My moment of hesitation has taken away my opportunity to give them a final peace before the parasite takes over.

#HorrorWritersChat I'm a big gamer and a huge fan of games like Axiom Verge and (recently) Look Outside that deal heavily with the concept of maintaining one's identity once someone is no longer (physically and/or mentally) identifiably human. I love to grapple with that dynamic.

1141

Red Dragon Press @reddragonpress.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

#HorrorWritersChat I'm a sucker for mental and psychological horror, so I'd prefer to lean into the mental aspects; though tying the two together makes for a *very* effective combo. Aspects of identity and what it means to be human pair well with physical transformation or body snatching.

Red Dragon Press @reddragonpress.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

#HorrorWritersChat Hi there! I write predominantly horror and horror-adjacent stories. I'm gonna go with the classic Facehuggers from Alien, though I also wanna give a shoutout to the cordyceps zombies from The Last of Us (even though it's not a horror game, the concept is very much horror).

As an author, I'm not always the best at coming up with names. So when I come up with a name that really sticks with me, I GO with that name and don't second-guess myself. I'm curious if any other authors struggle with names, or if you consider it to be your strong suit. #authorthoughts #writing

For the three protagonists of The Six Gods of Verdasa: - Advik: (High) Wisdom, (Low) Strength; he's a government auditor by profession and good at sussing out things that might be off. Not the most physical character. (1/3)

Technically there's only one major antagonist (with many followers), but he doesn't become a major factor until 2/3rds of the way through the book 🤭 Nonetheless, I'm very excited about the character. #darkfantasy #eldritchhorror

I give music takes too sometimes! I think Uptown Funk is the defining song of the 2010s the same way Don't Stop Believin' is the defining song of the 80s. If either of those songs come on your just know EVERYONE is gonna be singing and jamming along. #authorthoughts #music #musictakes

The two longest short stories in my next short story collection are both set in the same universe (one I've written in before—there were also two stories in my first collection!). I cannot understate how difficult it is as a writer—or for any creative, really—to accurately judge your own work.
