Hedgehog cactus are blooming in the Spring Basin Wilderness Area, Oregon. This is a full 3 weeks earlier than normal after a very warm and dry winter.

Owls in Towels @owls-in-towels.bsky.social · 07/04/2026
This Screech Owl injured his leg quite badly after getting it wedged in the gap of a tree. Thankfully there was no fracture and the rehabilitators at Hobbitstee Wildlife Refuge expected he would recover. Want to donate? hobbitstee.com/donate.php Source: fb.com/103529687864... #owlsintowels 💛🦉
A grey, black and white Screech Owl with the faintest tinges of tan here and there, is cloaked in a white towel. The most colourful part of the photo is the blue bandage around his right leg. His plumicorns (raised tufts that look like ears) are at full mast, and his talons are clenched. His eyes are grey-green, dilated, and express a sentiment best described as nope-nope-not-happy.

There is finally some snow in the Cascades! The 4 mile loop to Swampy shelter was perfect the day after a recent storm.

My first project using a #blazingshuttles warp! I flipped a couple of the stripes/warplets to get a bit more variety. Next time I will be bolder and mix several warps.

It’s been a warm November in the Cascades making a hike to Chush Falls possible. Beautiful views of the Three Sisters.
Chush Falls never gets sun in the winter. South Sister in a bluebird sky. Old trees from a forest fire extend above a thick layer of impenetrable snow brush. Ice formed on downed branches below Chush Falls.

A little while ago, my parents' cat Bridget went missing. As the weeks dragged on, they became extremely worried. My dad devised a way to distract himself: he began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up in some of art and music's most iconic scenes.

Metolius Preserve, Central Oregon….always on my list of places to visit this time of the year. The vine maples are doing their thing and the larches aren’t far behind.

I've taken the paywall off this piece I wrote about the wonderful art my mum and dad have been making in their 60s and 70s, which is also about the general (underacknowledged) concept of late-blooming creativity. I hope a few of you might find a moment to read it: www.tom-cox.com/the-magic-ro...

Wildflowers were doing their thing in Canyon Creek meadow below Three Fingered Jack in mid-August. Depending on where you stood you either saw lupine (blue) or yellow groundsel.
