I can't help thinking that Trump has painted himself into a corner on this ridiculous trade war he initiated with Canada. The world is going to watch how Trump reacts and if he missteps now, it could result in the world taking the lead from Canada.

I’m not necessarily against water companies having surge pricing in times of drought…. *BUT* Water companies should also be forced to reduce charges when they dump raw sewage into rivers, especially in times of drought.

There is a group of presenters on TV that should be particularly worried about the hot weather. I’m finding the heat is making me increasingly intolerant of condescending mediocrity. Or maybe it’s just me.

Yes. Very noble. This public that the PM is going to reconnect with, would they happen to be selected very carefully by his spin doctors and the consultations be made handily presented to the media in meticulously choreographed vox pops?

In the perfect world, none of the major parties would put up candidates for the upcoming Clacton by-election. The ideal result would be for Farage to be beaten into a distant second place by Count Binface.

Extremely good sketch by @mrjohncrace.bsky.social from yesterday's PMQs, particularly this bit. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
That just left Nige to make political capital out of a young man’s death. Everything is just material for Nige. He doesn’t give a shit about anyone or anything but himself. He is devoid of empathy, unable to see beyond his own vanity.

His imagined glories. King of kings. Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. “It’s now clear there is two-tier policing for different ethnic groups,” he began. Though he had no evidence to support this. Other than that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor would never have been arrested if he had been black. But Nige has never let the facts get in the way of his bigotry. And he has never needed his bigotry more than now.

Farage was not finished. There was anger spilling out on the streets of Southampton. Anger that he had done his best to stir up. He sounded disappointed that more people hadn’t been involved. He had asked for “pure cold rage”. But somehow the rage had not felt pure enough. Nor cold enough. Why couldn’t people even channel undiluted fury any more?

Starmer’s response was withering. He had the whole house, apart from the six Reform MPs, right behind him. He was disgusted with Farage’s comments. How dare he pretend to respect the wishes of Henry’s family. What he had done was unforgivable. The least anyone could do was keep quiet when asked. But Nige had, in a way, done us all a service. He had shown himself for who he really was. The whole country could now see through him.

It was as if we were watching the end of something. For 18 months, it has felt as if Reform is on an unstoppable roll. One triumph after another, as Labour and the Tories competed to be more useless than each other. But over the past six weeks, the shine has come off. They are the emperor with no clothes. Just another bunch of loudmouths with no answers. Just grievance.

When I voted Labour in the last election, I did so tactically to avoid extending the 14 years of austere Tory buffoonery that brought our public services to breaking point. I didn't expect an overnight turnaround, just competent, boring incremental steps. *1*

At a No 10 briefing today we heard about the government's commitment to "a whole-of-society response to antisemitism”. Asked if this might involve the government leaving X, where antisemitism is not only rife but monetlised, were were told it is "something we always keep under review." So: no.

Some estimate that Jim Ratcliffe saves £4 billion a year in tax by being resident in Monaco for tax purposes. If he really wants to see money spent to boost manufacturing and skills in the UK, perhaps he would be better served by paying UK tax rather than call for welfare to be cut.
