I try to earn that trust from the player." 515940
Reposted by @red-mors.bsky.socialGareth DAMIAN MARTIN | Jump Over the Age @jumpovertheage.com · 05/08/2026Writing is so often named either "good", "bad" or perhaps "mediocre" in videogames, and that's the end of the discussion. But prose can have so many different qualities and subtleties, and styles often have different objectives and intents. 1173

red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 14/04/2026My usual approach to setting creation is imaginingthe main image and then figuring it out on the go. But currently I'm working on a bigger writing project, and I feel like I'm supposed to have an entire fictional world in my head. A bit stressful. 110
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 12/04/2026I've made an 85-video playlist on YouTube with every video on TTRPG dungeon design I could find, and some extras (some videogame level design) I hope this will be enough to teach myself how to make a final boss dungeon for my 1.5 year campaign 😅 020
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 10/04/2026Playing the first Greedfall, right in the mood for "follow the marker to talk to 5 NPCs in succession" type of quests. But I do start to feel backtracking fatigue. There is combat and stealth, but I still wonder what can be done to make some quests more engaging 100
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 03/04/2026I just love videogames. To think that none of the previous generations could have ever experienced this medium because it just didn't exist. Working in this industry is like magic taking form. 100
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 22/03/2026What's a better way to spend a Sunday than 12-hour LotR marathon in the theater? 000
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 23/02/2026Felt Steam wishlist's effect on myself. Got an email that Greedfall is 90% off. One of those games that I thought "nah, I'll play eventually." But at this specific moment I was in the mood for some Bioware-esque cinematic RPGs, and I had just enough in my Steam wallet. That's how they get you 010
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 21/02/2026Let's talk about bit about motivations in Quantic Foundry model. The first one is Action and it shares the name with one of the basic genres. The model proposes two components — Destruction which for me is agency + high intensity, and Excitement which I think is about sensory input. 110
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 20/02/2026Continuing my journey through the backlog. Finished a short 3D puzzle-platformer Polarity in one sitting. This is an amateur Portal clone from the mid 2010s with all the simple presentation, lack of narrative and game-breaking bugs to expect from such titles, but it does well what it sets to do. 100
Reposted by @red-mors.bsky.socialYarn Spinner Tool @yarnspinner.dev · 19/02/2026The Citizen Sleeper 1 soundtrack is such a regular listen in our house that it's become a solution whenever we need to calm the dogs down, alongside "little bits of chicken" and "YouTube videos of ducks". 1221
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 15/02/2026I've been thinking about the way to position my stories in today's genre landscape. I don't write classical heroic fantasy or dark or low fantasy or romantasy. Though I have elements of those themes. If I have to use one label, I think I would name it cozydark. 100
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 14/02/2026My favorite gamer classification system is Quantic Foundry's Gamer Motivation Profile. I like that it uses scientific approach and bases its findings on a giant pool of people. I also love that in its core is not about assigning one label to a person, but about exploring different facets of oneself. 110
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 13/02/2026I feel like a very casual player lately. Played Dispatch and Braveland (a short tactical game, likely a mobile port). Tried my hand at Titan Souls, a 2D boss rush, and didn't feel like doing it. Am I lazy to learn new things overcome challenges? Maybe I just have enough stress in real life 000
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 12/02/2026It saddens me to see indie devs deciding to localize their game with AI. I know that localization is costly, and making your game available in other languages is a good thing for both marketing and accessibility, but... I don't know, games deserve better 000
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 12/02/2026For the past couple of years, inspired by Daryl Talks Games, I'm trying to finish my backlog. But for me it's not about playing everything I wanted to play ever, it's more about following through, about finishing stuff. I'm looking for a feeling of being backlog-free. 100
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 11/02/2026A moment to shout out endings in digital games. A good ending is a thing exceedingly rare, and ending that goes beyond expectations is rarer still. I've recently finished Satellite Reign. An example of a game where ending elevates the entire story. 100
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 11/02/2026I've started to dislike sentence fragmentation as an expressive figure since I noticed that GPT-generated texts use them excessively. It's sad that avoiding unwanted associations becomes a sort of self-censorship. 000
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 29/01/2026I like the theme of interconnectedness between digital and physical in all things Citizen Sleeper. This world feels more real this way. Interesting how first game was to a large extent about this juxtaposition. With each passing day this topic feels ever more important 010
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 29/01/202610 years ago, at the start of 2016 I've started my writing journey. A lot of uninformed optimism, blindness to my inability, many mistakes, experimentation. I writed just a few short stories, but by 2018 I had my first magazine publications. And then I hit a wall. 100
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 28/01/2026TTRPGs are like authentic folk singing — a communal experience. You may have a leader who directs the flow, but each voice is valuable for the harmony. You also have props, special instruments and sometimes costumes that bring the experience closer to the realm of ritual. 031
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 27/01/2026The art of… key art. The color palette, the wind, the slowly rising snowflakes — even without reading the description, this short clip gives me everything I need to know to subconsciously decide if I want to get this game (I do). 0101
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 26/01/2026This is a passage from the latest Esoteric Ebb blog post. It talks about one of my favorite parts of agency in RPGs — having items you choose to pick and hold in your inventory be unexpectedly relevant in your quests or dialogues. This makes the world seem more real, connected like a real place 010
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 21/01/2026Do your players make art inspired by your TTRPG sessions? One of my players recently released a song taking some inspiration from our adventures. I couldn't be more proud. Take a listen here: band.link/witch_lighth... 130
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 19/01/2026I'm reading a Young Adult folk-horror book, and it includes a lot of interludes, small diegetic stories that the main heroine hears, reads about or remembers. They make the world bigger and creepier, establish paranormal encounters as something not uncommon, the barrier to chthonic world being loose 100
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 13/01/2026There are different styles of play in TTRPGs. One of them is deemphasizing dice rolls as part of conflict resolution. In OSR-like play you are supposed to use the game environment to achieve your goal, and the referee is supposed to simply allow you to succeed if your solution makes sense in-world. 120

red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 11/01/2026Another thing I love about dice rolling in RPGs is that every time you roll you are reminded about many ways your choices shape not only the narrative, but your role, your character. E.g., by adding your stats as the modificator. They reflect the way you want to act in this play world, or to be. 100

red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 06/01/2026Dice rolls in RPGs are fun because they provide a risk of failure. In itself it gives the play an inherit cycle of tension and release. Basically, each roll in the game is a micro-catharsis, I find each roll to be an aesthetic experience as much as mechanical. 110

red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 30/12/2025Steam reminded me that the game I played the most this year is Aegis Defenders, 2018 puzzle-platformer/tower defense hybrid. Looking back, while gameplay was solid, I coudn't really remember why I spent almost 19 hours in it. It was not *that* fun. But then I opened the Steam page, and it made sense 120
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 29/12/2025I'm not sure if this is a controversial opinion, but I actually do enjoy generic fantasy settings. I don't need a fancy magic system, mind-boggling biomes or never-seen-before species. Give me my elves and dwarves, they've done nothing wrong. 110
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 28/12/2025One of my favorite moments from one of my favorite games 010
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 27/12/2025Currently playing and enjoying Satellite Reign. It's a real-time tactical stealth heist game in a neon-lit cyberpunk city. It's very open, giving player a lot of tools and opportunities to use them, like a sandbox. In this regard it feels like an immersive sim. Love the feeling of mastering systems 010
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 25/12/2025Another perfect winter thing for me is Wolf's Rain anime. Perfectly melancholic, slow and distant in its presentation and themes. If you're in the mood for something bleak yet beautiful, check it. In these apocalyptically loud times it reminds me of a cold comfort after the end 010
red-mors.bsky.social @red-mors.bsky.social · 24/12/2025I would say that my favorite Christmas/Winter videogame is Banner Saga. There's just something so fitting to the season in its slowly decaying snow-covered world and its distant presentation accompanied by the soul-crushing score… 000
