My grandmother was a shitty person. But growing up, I didn't SEE that, she was never shitty TO me. So the knowledge of that awful person can't break through the emotional attachment I have to my idea of the woman. That's hwo HP is. People got emotinally attached. Then it was ruined after teh fact.

It's also nostalgia, not just in the 'hee I liked this when I was a kid' but 'this was there for me during these developmental times'. People were into this during their formative years and that's not something you can replace. You can't go back and put something in the hands of 8 year old you.

The first thing I can think of that I can point to and say "That, that fucked me up" was Child's Play. My mother thought it was HILARIOUS. 6 year old me, NIGHTMARES. I didn't see teh whole thing, just a singel scene, and still. Evil toys. NIGHTMARES.

The RR, but also things like payment processors. Who see anything as adult as "risky" and thus will refuse processing payments to adult content. And since regular companies dont' want to be advertised on adult sites, it's a serious harm to capitalist-minded companies, so they follow suit.
