Well, this is cool! I was probably right there but didn’t see it from this angle! 🧡

Sunset on the deck right now and in comes another big batch of warblers. Yellow-rumped plus some others ( probably Tennessee) . Also White-throated Sparrows. Warblers are catching bugs and having a bath in the stream. What a gift to see these little guys! ❤️😊

A lovely spider watched me weed for a while this afternoon. There were many others of various species but this one was large enough to photograph with my iPhone.

A fuzzy brown spider with cream stripes along its sides rests on a green daisy leaf.

Sitting on the deck tonight at sunset and a bunch of new little voices cropped up. A flock of Yellow-rumped Warblers found our yard and creek. We could see them bathing in the creek an exploring the various bushes and trees. So glad to give them a resting place on their long journey. ❤️

If I say I was looking all over in my kitchen drawers trying to find a “church key” how many of you know I’m referring to this:

Photograph of a metal double-ended bottle opener. One end is pointed for punching a hole in can lids.

Another bird book, this one unearthed in a pile of ordinary animal books and pounced on because of the beautiful lithographed illustrations. Batsford produced beautiful books. This one has reproductions of some of John Gould’s paintings and the colours are very rich. @horstp8r.bsky.social

Cover of a hardcover book titled Tropical Birds, a Batsford Colour Book. There is a painting of a pair of toucans or aracaris surrounded by a dark green border.

The title page and one of the gorgeous illustrations in this book. This one is a pair of grey chested birds of paradise. The tail of the male is an incredibly rich ruby red.

Wanted to share this children’s oversize booklet from 1917. I found it in a box of miscellaneous paper and was instantly enchanted by the illustrations. @horstp8r.bsky.social

An oversized children’s booklet “ABC Book of Birds.” The cover features a large scarlet macaw.

Interior spread from the children’s booklet showing the letters STUVW along with illustrations of appropriate birds: swallow, tanager, toucan, umbrella bird, vulture, and woodpecker.

It’s a foggy night on Old Cape Cod… Anyone else remember listening to these radio shows? When I lived in San Jose, CA, I rented a room in a questionable house, had no TV, no real bed, and no cooking facilities. I did have an air popper and radio. Sunday night was old radio shows and popcorn.

I found a place to buy pulses grown and processed in Saskatchewan directly from the farmers/processor at a substantial savings. Plus I’m supporting local people. So far I’ve acquired split red lentils, chickpeas, and buckwheat. All delicious! Tonight red lentil curry is making the house smell great!

Our rain gauge showed just over 4” since Friday. That’s a huge amount of water for this location. And we had at least 2” last weekend.

It’s been raining “like a cow on a flat rock” (as my mom used to say) for a couple of hours. Glad that it’s watering everything in for autumn but the farmers harvesting won’t be pleased.

I found a vintage Scholastic books group on Facebook and have been immersed in wonderful memories. I loved carefully choosing books from the order form. The day they appeared on my desk with the order form stuck in one of them was like Christmas! So many books that I still remember fondly!

The trees above and around the feeders are filled with birds and the whole ground is also busy. At least 100 grackles here at one point! The Grackling™️

If you are growing cherry tomatoes in your garden, you must make this! I used a bunch of different cherry tomatoes cut in half and 9 oz. of feta because that was the size of the piece I had. Fresh basil and lots of pressed garlic. OMG! Definitely a 10! feelgoodfoodie.net/recipe/baked...

Before and after — cherry tomatoes in the dehydrator. The 15.5” tray of tomatoes now fits in half of a sandwich bag. I keep my temperature low to preserve color. They taste wonderful and fruity! Currently have green onion tops in the dehydrator and pulled out dried sage and chives yesterday.

It’s a cool, damp morning. I’m going to head to Duck Lake, Saskatchewan to drop off two quilts for longarming. The one I just finished is fun — vintage school days. I found a batik that had all the colours in the prints and used it for the cornerstones and outer border. 😊

A simple quilt top made of rectangles and squares. Fabric has designs representing old school days: penmanship guides, maps, school photos, etc.

Closeup show a few of the fabrics with the batik border that captures all the fabric colours.

If you listen to audiobooks, I have to highly recommend Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club series and the first of what I hope is a new series We Solve Murders. The plots are twisty, the characters are wonderful, and the narrative performances are near perfect. Add your audio favourites below!
