Day One:
I have tried and rejected an Estonian Double-Start cast-on and a Twisted German Cast-on.
I have settled on an alternating 1/1 Cable Cast-on with manipulating stitch order for a 2/2 rib.
Of course, as everyone knows, this is essentially working a 1/1 cable cross every 3 stitches without knitting through them - changing stitch order.
Then I will proceed to work Combined Continental ribbing for 3",
", from the front only of course, so I have
tight cuff ribbing with no leaning outer left leg on the second knit, and no rowing out.
My hands are not sweating - they are weeping for want of wool instead of this acrylic that would pill in the vacuum of space, let alone decades on Erid.
I have a full mug of coffee. My first of two daily doses of Concerta is on board.
I fear that neither will be enough.

This is such a niche post but I know there are others raised in the Message or Message-adjacent here ;-)
A screenshot from Facebook with a photo of a tuxedo tabby on the left, with a blurry mezuzah overhead, and a photo of an asshole in a suit on the right, with a blurry light fixture overhead. Text reads: Unless you were raised in the Message, or Message adjacent, you will have no idea why this photo of my husband's cat with my mezuzah over her head cracked me up so much.
For those of you unfamiliar with William Branham (a preacher who kicked off the whole 'faith healing' movement), those who believed he was the prophet or Elijah or even Jesus also believed the photo on the right was an 'angel of the lord' over him instead of, uh, a light fixture? duh?
My childhood church was inspired by him but we weren't full Message adherents, so we didn't have that photo in the church or in our home, but I certainly saw it a fair number of times.
Which is why, when I noticed my mezuzah over Philophrosyne's head at the same angle....I lost it.
If only my dang ethics weren't so strong, I am fairly certain I could convince people she was a Magical Cat. 😛

What, they didn't have the Bougie Jesus version? ;-)
Candles with icons of Jesus and Mary, with price tags reading Bougie Jesus and Bougie Marie which baffled me until I remembered I was in a store in the Francophone part of the province and this was a descriptor of a candle and not a statement of any sort whatsoever.

This particular Chonky Wench, Philophrosyne, knows that if I try to remove her from my embroidery floss then all she has to do is tattle to Dad-Hooman when he gets home from work. (Uh, that's maybe half of my floss? Whoops.) #CraftSky #CatSky

Ok but I read an article in Reader’s Digest about this, then checked out The Cuckoo’s Egg from the library, which motivated me to get my ham license in 1989…which led to ham friends introducing me to my now-husband in ‘93. We got married in ‘97 and YES I emailed Cliff to thank him 😌💗
A screenshot of a Facebook post I made in 2012. It has a photo of Cliff Stoll holding a copy of his book, autographed to me, before he mailed it out. The “Michael” I tagged in the post was a nerdy teen getting his ham license in the same class I was in, and when we were older, was my buddy who convinced me to give a blind date a try. Reader, I married that blind date 😌

The text reads:

When I was 12, I got my ham radio license - yes, I'm a long-term, bona-fide geek. That same year, this book came out (remember what it was like to live through the tail end of the Cold War, people?)
It was my ultimate favorite book ever that year, because it was all about catching spies AND he used Morse Code and ham radio to do it! And it had the Internet-with-a-capital-I!
When I stumbled across his site, and saw he was offering copies of the book, I knew I had to buy a retro copy for my library. And he signed it and shipped it within 30 minutes - he's still a pretty cool guy, that whole Silicon Snake Oil debacle not withstanding ;-)

So today is my 50th birthday, and I have been receiving texts, DMs, and social media posts about it. I have enjoyed them all, but the very best - the one that made me cackle - is from my high school bestie, maid of honour…long since blocked from accessing me so she messaged my son.

I know your mom probably doesn't want to hear from me, but could you Please tell her I said happy birthday when you get a chance. Thanks!

Yeah getting over the 'your child is an abomination unto the Lord' is difficult for some reason.
But in all seriousness, 1 will let her know - thank you for reaching out!

Screenshot of a message from a homophobe to a queer male, part two:

I never said her child was. I said the act was an abomination, but if she wants to take it that way, that's on her.
Thanks for telling her....
Thank you for clarifying that 1 am not an abomination as her child, but rather the 'acts' I do with consenting men are what is an abomination unto the Lord
Though I must say, for the act being an abomination it is quite; enjoyable from my experience.
