My cousin is one talented lady! Everything was woodland themed- mushrooms made from marshmallows and chocolate, hedgehogs, toadstools, “wild berries” and much much more. She’d make a great infant teacher 🙌🏻

Oh I feel your pain 😩 50 pages in is good going though! I’ve been looking at it so long I’m questioning every spelling and spacing length at this stage. Best of luck with yours 🤗

Just spent the last 7 hours “proof reading” my thesis 🫣. I may have to delegate its submission to my husband at this stage.

Speaking aloud to my dog (who is thoroughly enjoying me working from home at the moment), I said: “I’m going to put on my eyebrows and go get an iced mocha”. Lola does not care for my plans, once she can continue to 😴

I taught in Qatar in my mid twenties also and the respect that the profession has there is huge too. Career progression opportunities, job satisfaction, albeit longer hours, it’s much more attractive.

Some really interesting perspectives on choosing ‘read-alikes’ and not relying on texts that we’ve always used or are more familiar to us. Using the familiar to reinvigorate our choices and supplementing our comfort texts to build knowledge 🙌🏻🥰 @clarafiorentini.bsky.social #edchatie

It definitely is a barrier, for sure. There are limited options for primary school teachers, considering that the overwhelming majority of schools in Ireland are denominational. However, it is one of *many* barriers that exist in this area.

Great read, Simon. I agree with you on your take re Religion and choice of school. I’ve *started* to see an increase in recent months on webinars in this space. The INTO have a ‘Fostering Inclusivity’ webinar series soon, with ‘anti-racism’, ‘supporting religious minorities’ and others. #edchatie

I fell victim to this a few years back, returning from teaching abroad. It takes *a lot* of time, effort and money. Also, applying for incremental credit is another hoop to jump through to be on the pay point that you’re entitled to. #edchatie

Rebecca Broderick @rebeccabroderick.bsky.social · 13/01/2025
Very true, John. I think it’s easy to reduce this issue to that of religion or Irish as the barriers, but there’s more to it. There definitely are barriers there, for sure. However the Irish language isn’t a requirement to be a secondary school teacher and yet, we still have limited diversity.

Rebecca here 👋 a primary school teacher and current teacher fellow in DCU. With this #edchatie topic, I think diversity in teaching needs to be considered. Diversity in Ireland isn’t new. However, our teachers are a largely homogeneous group. How can we do more to encourage more diversity in ITE?
