That was mine as well. I had nightmares for weeks. My mother was so upset, she wrote to Disney to protest.

But of course the whole point of a French "burger" is that it's meant to look good and be eaten with a knife and fork. If the unburgerlike trimmings also taste good, you're in luck.

Thanks for posting it. I seriously had no idea, thought disabled objections were maybe just paranoia. But yeah, this is appalling.

Hatch End station originally opened in 1840 on the London & Birmingham Railway. It was rebuilt in 1911, and poet John Betjemen described it as "half-way between a bank and a medium-sized country house".

I'm so old I remember when there were NO PODCASTS. In those days, Wikipedia was indeed slop. It could be useful, but you had to double-check everything it said, which often meant sourcing the info yourself. Sound familiar?

Thanks for a great review. I noticed the organist in the Elgar wasn't named in the programme. Any idea who he was?

Franglais language wars reach the vehicle hire sector 😂
A white Rent-a-Car van with the following text on the side, in French: 'But why write Rent A Car [in English]on your van when it means 'rent a car'? Because it's a semantic aberration and we'd made a bet with the marketing team to write 'semantic' on our vans. They owe us €5

This looks like one of the pair of Embankment dragons. If so, you might note that they are the original 1849 Coal Exchange guardians, made of cast iron. The others are half-size models of these in aluminium.

Around the periphery of London stand over 200 tax posts, erected in the 1860s to show the point from which tax was due on coal and wine arriving in the capital. The tax was used by the City of London to pay for infrastructure projects. This post is near Northwood.

During the 19thC the Metropolitan Board of Works created the Thames Embankments through London to house its new sewers and to prevent flooding. They created ornate lamps for the embankments. This is one of a pair on the Chelsea Embankment, designed by Timothy Butler.

In the days before the invention of plastic, baleen - the feeding apparatus of whales - was used in manufacturing where a flexible material was required, such as chair seats, hooped skirts and corsets. Baleen was traded here in Whalebone Court.

Paxton & Whitfield in Jermyn Street, St. James's is said to be Britain's oldest cheese shop. It's origins date back to a market stall in 1742, becoming the partnership of Harry Paxton and Charles Whitfield at the end of that century.

It's appalling to me, and too indicative of the state of North American publishing (not to mention US healthcare), that a writer so well known and appreciated should be in such straits.
