et voila, the cake is finished it's really more of a jiggly pile of chocolate pudding with some nuts to hold it together than a cake. that's exactly the way I like it. 😋 #Baking #BakingSeason

step 2, Dacquoise! the layers of the cake are made from a soft nutty meringue and there are five of them. they're very un-cakey, just light and soft and a little sticky. #Baking

step 1, complete! this will be filling for the cake, vanilla pastry cream with chocolate and espresso. it needs to cool before I can whip it with butter to finish it off, but I don't need that until the cake layers are ready so it's going in the fridge for a nap. #Baking

it's #baking season and we have our first spreadsheet. this is for Martin's Birthday / Belated Anniversary Garash Torte and it's going to take most of today and tomorrow. I had to make a chart to figure out what order to do things in. #BakingSeason

four down, four to go before I can make my big swatch. these colors are hard to photograph, my lights too warm and I don't want to take them outside because Summer II Back With A Vengeance is in town this week and it's Hot. #handspinning

I'm thinking of thread plying all of this fiber because I really like this yarn structure for knitting. it looks like it would be nubby and lumpy but my swatches have really good stitch definition. #handspinning

I should really measure my fiber before I spin it because this illegally full bobbin was annoying to finish and I'm going to have to switch to the jumbo bobbin to do the final ply. #handspinning

bobbin two, this color is called inkpot I think. or inkwell. something inky the plan is to make a stripy hat as a big swatch, and to test out color combos. I think I'll do two more colors before starting on the hat. #handspinning

no longer just a pile of yarn, now it's a pile of warp chains. I still need to figure out how I'm going to sett it and what to do about the boucle (I suspect it's not going to fit through the heddles) it's getting more blanket shaped, very exciting. #handspinning #weaving
