her branches
stretching

upon this particular midnight
i had seen
from the corner of my vision
a smear of
something black
a void insisting that i ignore
the sliding into space it
took up
chitenous rattling
of tooth to
bone
i knew him
a hesitation in his gait
the thumping of a missing limb
upon wooden planks
still sounding entirely wrong
wet thunks of charnel meat
against
the most souless of oak
former asylum residents
reject the reclamation vehemently
yet, their cries are trapped within
the woodgrain of amontillado
like tears in amber mortar
i could not help but shiver
when i discovered
the smudge had moved to the other
corner of my eye
and that its foul mouth was
open and ready to swallow me

its early still

my phone
i lie and exist

the existential dread

like a crow

the best feelings captured
in capsules
harnessed memories for easy ingestion
sounds great
until you realize that you could
wind up addicted
to the first kiss you had with her
or the sweltering august night
when she said yes under
an infinite umbrella of stars
but it cannot take away the reality
of a terminal diagnosis
her wasting away to a grain of sand
held gently in your palm
then forever lost in the bedsheets
the problem with these
pills of memory is that they eventually
wear off
so everything id wish for would be
gone the next morning
just like she was.
