A quote from when I tried this: "They used to hear voices. Before constituents could search. Back in the days when those who did not file called the filers witches, and lobbyists. And citizens dreamed they flew through the air, on forms powered by notaries. What did this constituent dream?"

I can understand why the features of a supposed AI assistant are compelling. I kinda wanna try it too. But I know too much about how these things work. Do not give a cloud-based agent access to your shit. Especially one from the big tech companies.

One time I was at a party for a bunch of music graduate students and I told someone I didn't pay an instrument and instead was employed as a web developer and they said "Oh! There's an English teacher and a scientist over there. Maybe you could talk to them?"

And yet, being anywhere in the vicinity of design is feminine coded
Of a few thousand respondents in the State of CSS survey last year, 11 percent were women and 3 percent were nonbinary or gender-nonconforming. Pathetic, I know. But the State of JavaScript reported only 6 percent female and 1 percent nonbinary.

I got interrogated about what kind of super power I'd have by a tech bro whose company is astonishingly no longer a thing. Like, asking which I'd choose initially was cute, but asking for a full analysis of why I'd choose that was certainly a choice

Sen. Susan Collins helped steer millions in federal defense contracts to Navatek, whose CEO illegally funneled thousands of dollars to her campaign. The FBI sought to launch a probe and was eyeing Collins and other lawmakers. Then Trump gutted the unit in charge. THREAD 🧵

plenty of people would try their hands at interesting little businesses if it they did not need to generate a huge profit at the outset and i think this is something governments should encourage. (and lots of little businesses makes a place more livable!)

When we were in our early 20s, my high school BFF was an army wife who was a first Gen college student. She would call me (college graduate) for help on her homework problems, and it took me awhile to realize that all I was doing was rephrasing the questions

you may think i am joking but i am not. they’re talking about AI the way protestant zealots talked about the end times. in both cases we are hearing people talk about themselves — their desires, their lust for destruction, their yearning to trample their rivals underfoot.

My oldest kids are able to understand 9/11 now, and we had a long talk about the emergency workers. My 7-year-old asked me if they'd had their bravest people working that day, and I said "No, they thought it was a normal day. That's just who was scheduled to work "
