The last #SPEYWhisky in the glass is Fumare 14 Year Old. It’s got a punchy kick of smoke, zest of lemon and more smoke on the aroma.

The #SPEYWhisky Trilogia 10 Year Old palate follows the nose. It is sweet with crispy bacon smoke, fruity with cherries and full of musty leather. It’s an absolute delight.

Third #SPEYWhisky is Trilogia 10 Year Old. Its aroma is musty, leathery with even a hint of crispy bacon.

Real Dram Rob @realdramrob.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
The #SPEYWhisky Tenne palate is full of apricot jam sweetness, with a delicate spice that sits somewhere between aniseed and ginger. Then it has a creamy buttery finish.

The second #SPEYWhisky in the glass is Tenne 9 Year Old. Its aroma is like strawberry jam tarts stood on an oak side.

Real Dram Rob @realdramrob.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
The #SPEYWhisky Trutina 7 Year Old has a classic sherried Speyside vibe. It’s got an unctuous dried fruit sweetness, custard cream vanilla and a delicate ginger spice that lingers and warms the cockles.

The first #SPEYWhisky in the glass is Trutina. Its aroma is fruity, with big whafts of rhubarb and cream. There is spice, but it’s delicate and buttery like shop bought apple tarts.

Yum! This #OneCaskAtATime Ledaig is fantastic. It’s oily, golden syrup sweet and then it erupts into a minty, charcoal smoke that is meaty like thick crispy bacon.

The final #OneCaskAtATime #Whisky is Ledaig 18 Year Old. It is oily, with a briny smoke and a zesty lemon note.

Interestingly, the palate of this Glen Garioch #OneCaskAtATime 15 Year Old is gentler than expected. It’s honey sweet, with a heathery spice and fruity blackcurrant.

Real Dram Rob @realdramrob.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Next #OneCaskAtATime in the glass is a distillery that I love, Glen Garoich. This is heathery, sweet with Jamaican ginger cake and full of pear scented orchard fruit.

This #OneCaskAtATime Deanston 13 Year Old is a fantastic example of a Bourbon Cask matching a gentle fruity spirit well. It is sweet with floral honey, has a lovely ginger warmth and a gentle oak quality that gives depth.

Ooft this #OneCaskAtATime Deanston is an auspicious start. It is full of vanilla toffee sweetness, buttery crumble and rich fruity stewed apple.

Jura – 14 Year Old
Revisiting places you haven't been to in a while is always a mixed blessing. A lot depends on your previous experience, because it sets your expectations for this one. A good memory brings with it high expectations, which can easily be dashed, spoiling both the present experience and the past. However, bad memories can be very difficult to overcome - leading me neatly on to Jura 14.

Islay is a mysterious and beautiful place. It’s so full of places to explore that it could take an entire lifetime to see it all. I’ve been three times, and every visit only makes my list of places to see even longer. I’m hoping to go back this year, so maybe I’ll finally make it to the Bholsa Caves. For now, I’ll have to make do with visiting in liquid form.

Paul John – Classic Select Cask
One of the things I love about whisky is the way it can take on the quality of a time capsule. Each bottle, even each dram, has its own lifespan, unfolding alongside your own life and marking itself into your experience. Some whiskies become part of your everyday. You replace them as soon as they are finished, so in a sense they never really leave.

Benromach Contrasts – Unpeated 12 Year Old
I have never been very good at sticking with subscription services. I am far too much of a control freak and my short attention span means that often I lose interest in what they send within the first few deliveries. This means that I have a long collection of usernames and passwords that I don't use anymore and a fair few pin badges and stickers lying around the house.

Cadenheads – Islay Single Malt – ISY.3.A
Wm Cadenhead’s is a whisky company you can trust. They produce fantastic whisky, and I have never bought a bottle from them that has been anything less than great. I spent a very long time at the Cadenhead’s table at the Exploring Whisky Bristol festival. Aroma: Sweet with caramel, but slightly synthetic — almost Caramac-like. It becomes creamy and vegetal, like popcorn.

White Peak – Necessary Evil Finish
Whisky festivals are a fantastic place to try new whiskies. You get small amounts of lots of drams, hear stories, and take on new experiences. But they are also a good place to try new things from old favourites. If you are a regular reader, then you will know that I love WireWorks and all that they make. Aroma: Sweet like brioche, with a waft of smoke, toasted hazelnuts, and stewed apples.
