Heyo! I don't know about you, but I am absolutely ready for cozy season to descend upon us as we near the end of the summer. Not only am I a big fan of cold days and rainy skies, but I'm particularly fond of these last few months of the year for the change it atmosphere they bring. I love putting up spooky decorations, listening to Halloween music, and forcing my husband to watch horror films with me. The fact that that almost directly transitions into holiday season (at least in this household) makes it even better.

Heyo! We are officially in the waning days of summer. The nights are getting longer, the heat is breaking (wishful thinking, I know) and that can only mean one thing. It's almost time for the 'In the Wake of the Blade' Kickstarter launch! I won't lie. I'm on the edge of my seat as this one draws near. The Tides That Reign series means so much to me, and my entire outlook on it has transformed drastically from receiving the acquisition letter from the former publisher, to taking control of its publishing future, to the final book release.

Musings... Preparing the Kickstarter for the final book in The Tides That Reign series over a year after finishing its first draft has put me in a contemplative state of mind. Contemplative, of course, serving as a euphemism for "frequently dissolving into fits of panic about how it will be received." It's far easier to build up an epic fantasy yarn than it is to close one - a widespread concern made apparent by just how many beloved works fall flat in their final chapters. But rather than focusing on the stories whose endings evoked disappointment, frustration, or even anger; I like to highlight those many sagas that came to a satisfying end.

Summer is still in full swing, but with the days getting shorter, I find myself in a more tranquil mood. Don't get me wrong, sunshine is great, but I prefer the stillness of a dark morning over full sunlight at 5am. I like to ease into the day, even though I'm pretty fast at shaking sleep. Heyo! Summer is undeniably upon us, and in this household, Pool is the Rule. That being, my toddler is all about swimming in any body of water she can throw herself into. Now, I wasn't a huge pool/swimming person before she was born, but given how much joy the simple pleasure of water activities brings her, I'm giving into the addiction. Beyond that, I've found myself re-entranced by the third season of HBO's House of the Dragon. While season 2 was a dragging disappointment that nearly got me to quit watching, the writers have stepped up their game and added some fire to the series.

Titled In the Wake of the Blade, this grand finale will conclude the dark, epic fantasy tale I began crafting nearly eight years ago. It seems like I say this with every new release in The Tides That Reign series, and yet it rings true. Book four is the most challenging work I have ever written. Weaving together the many, far-reaching plots opened over near half a million words into one cohesive and satisfying finish was no small feat.
