Watching this after years of caring for elderly people and just last week returning home from a trip to Wales where I accidentally took my mum up some mountain pass that was the highest highest road in the north of the country certainly gave it a lot of extra meaning. It's an incredible film.

I had a strange but nice day out. I took a friend who’s really into cars to a charity supercar event that happened to be at my old school (finished 2002), and I bumped into one of my best friends from the time who also lived on the grounds, and also saw his dad who retired but was a teacher.

The Beach is a crap film, but call it rose-tinted glasses, I'm fond of it. The shimmering images, the pulsating soundtrack (which has remained an all-time favourite for decades since I first saw it), the summery vibes, the late 90s and early 2000s fashion and aesthetics. It's very nostalgic to me.

I watched all five episodes of Mr. Scorsese and the whole thing is a fast-paced, warm, nostalgic trip through his life and filmography with a lot of insight, but then the second half of the last episode brought me back to reality with a very frank look at Parkinson's disease and caring full-time.

Arco is v. derivative but I enjoyed it. It’s basically Ponyo + Back to the Future + Rene Laloux & Moebius + The Terminator + Terminator 2 + I, Robot + ET + Interstellar + WALL-E + that Futurama episode where Leela carves out a message on the cave walls for Fry in the future. I'm hearing reports that Muslims may have voted in Gorton & Denton. A sad state of affairs, if true, and a sign of the dangerous radical sectarian extremism that Labour politicians, through no fault of their own, must contend with.
