I'll accept that transit in the Bay is a lot better than most of the rest of the country but only a certain subset of trips are not painful - Peninsula -> SF and SF -> Oakland are each good but Peninsula -> Oakland is terrible It's like Debord's map of Paris

I don't think Bender is completely wrong here; you *can* criticize AI without using it. But the equivalent of “I'd never use heroin - it supports drug cartels, has horrific health effects, and all it does is make you a little sleepy anyway” is not a strong or useful critique.

I know they say the Fed funds rate acts with “long and variable lags” but I wonder if this could be at least part of the story?

The fact that the trend started the same month ChatGPT was first released makes me think it was happening too early to be caused by AI

IDK, is this cognitive surrender? Anyway wild that I can pull this shit and it just works in 30 seconds (Opus 5.5 high)

> for the PCIe firmware version check - is there anything we can deduce from the history of recipes-bsp/pcie-phy-fw/ meta-mammoth that would let us see where to check the version? A very dumb grep didn't find anything matching 012419 (the putative version) but maybe we could be a little smarter?

<Ran 5 shell commands>

• Found it-the PCIe firmware stores the version as one byte per component, which is why grep missed it. Now checking whether the BSP image packs the two blobs top-first or lane-first.

<Ran 5 shell commands>

• Yes, the recipe history pins it down. Its files include two firmware releases, 1.24.18.0 and 1.24.19.1. Diffing .chex files shows only 2 changed words in the top image and 3 in the lane image, and all of them are the version build date.

Encoding: one byte per version component, which is why grepping for 012419 missed it. Ox01181301 is 1.24.19.1 24, Ox13 = 19). The next word is a BCD build date, Ox20240923.

I wonder how much of this is remote/hybrid work? For me personally I'm probably down 180 minutes / day at the office vs 2019 on average, so I'm probably at home significantly more even if I'm also quite a bit more like this too?

This is just absolutely, completely wrong - Jensen is not turning away from the hyperscalers where nearly all Nvidia's current business and projected growth is coming from. All the R&D going into Groq, NVHBM, 800GE, high-radix NVLink switches is clearly not a bet on consumer/edge being the future.

Welp blocked but I do think “reverse Gell-mann amnesia” about AI among programmers is interesting to consider. We probably over-generalize AI capabilities from seeing it e.g. synthesize sparse ambiguous information to find subtle bugs - but a lot of non-programming tasks do seem similar!

Rode by the Tesla office on Hillview in Palo Alto and it is *wild* how many Cybercab prototypes they have just sitting around. No wonder employees are taking them down the street to get Chipotle!
About 10 cybercabs parked in a row outside an office buildingAnother 20 Tesla Cybercabs sitting in a parking lot

Traders can definitely make really bad bets and get blown up by a chart like this, but it's important to keep any stories about a “sell-off” or “pullback” in perspective

Total bullshit, they corruptly changed the index rules to make this $1.5T company be 0.1% of everyone's retirement account, and now it's up 20% over the last week

*So many* of them around the Tesla office in Palo Alto, I think they're just having employees drive them around for errands. Looked in one parked at Chipotle, kinda funny how they hacked in the steering wheel.

It's a web site, you're not massacring civilians
Anil Dash post:

There are so many bad trends in tech, but maybe one of the worst is people who write (or used to write, pre-LLMs) code describing themselves "forward-deployed" when they mean that they work at a client site, based on wanting to emulate military jargon so it sounds like they're going to kill people.
