Finding Backrooms frightening largely due to all the unanchored furniture.

Keep forgetting to check here, largely cuz Bsky is very unpleasant to use via screen reader. Like, Instagram is better at least for navigating, and that's terrible. D: The Mona app guys need to make one for this place.

Disability rights have just been butchered nationally and Bsky halved the character limit for alt text so I can’t even share the full disability coalition letter?! I am so pissed right now.

Today, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas handed down its long awaited decision in Texas v. Kennedy. The court agreed with the “joint resolution” between the states of Texas, Florida and Alaska, and the United States Department of Health and Human Services’ recommendation to strike what we have called the “integration mandate.” We are outraged and disgusted that the court’s ruling strikes down most of the integrated settings language in the federal 504 regulations. This set of rules created the requirement for entities receiving “federal financial assistance” to provide services in the most integrated setting. These rules were the foundation of the Olmstead decision and vital for persevering people’s right to live in the community.
Entities included in the “federal financial assistance” language includes ALL Medicaid programs, but also other areas.
We are fortunate that Colorado’s Medicaid agency remains committed to community living, but we know disabled people in many other states face immediate, terrifying uncertainty. This is a harsh reminder that elections are important. Texas brought this lawsuit, but the federal administration actively supported them in gutting our rights. Even in a state committed to community inclusion, federal funding guarantees are essential.
The full effects of this decision are not immediately clear. There are a number of very smart lawyers around the country and some amazing national organizations that will be figuring out if there is any further legal action that can be taken to defend our rights in the court.
Regardless of whether further legal actions can be taken, there are other, non legal things that we can do as a community right now to protect ourselves.
Here is how we come together and fight back right now:
Vote YES on Amendment 87 to protect state resources and NO on Proposition 136 (which would cancel 87 out) to secure critical funding for services.
Demand federal accountability.

A gorgeous sunset view from the VA-TN-KY tri-state point, where I saw a bear cub for the first time! #Photography

A photo taken from elevation looking out at a mountainous landscape covered in trees, taken from between two trees immediately after sunset. The partly cloudy sky is rich in colors from oranges and yellows on the horizon to bluish-purple in the clouds. A river is seen in the valley between two small mountains, and there is a large boulder at the very bottom of the frame.

A photo of the bare branches of trees sticking up out of a pond of water. Among the branches are numerous (12) white egrets. Some are looking out while others are cleaning themselves. The birds are reflected in the water. Behind the pond are green trees and grasses illuminated in a warm tone from the setting Sun.

TOUCH OF WONDER (2024) Acrylic on Paper - 12” x 7”

In a recent attempt to clean up my studio, I found a color study of crystals done for RHYTHM OF WAR. 1/2

A figure dives out of a spaceship angling down over a massive cubic crystal formation. His tether loops as if free of gravity. In the upper left, a moon hangs against dark sky. The scene is illuminated by the glow of the yellow-orange crystals. Lower in the formation colors shift to pink and then purple with the cubes varying greatly in size.

🎨 ARTIST Spotlight 🎨 Hi helo hey! We’re happy to tell you about another one of our page artists: @razzek.bsky.social ! They’re giving us a full page of a cute duo and we’re super excited for everyone to see their work! #zine #fanzine #jnd #jndzine

A holo-screen with a gold tech surrounding it is displayed on top of a burgundy mechanical background. At the very top right above the screen is the title: Contributor Introduction. On the screen shows a preview of Simon from Irong Lung inside the submarine, back facing away from the viewer. The environment is red while SImon has green tones. Against Simon’s back is a green toned wolf. Over the art on the top right is the title "Page Artist".
At the bottom of the screen is the name "Razz" with their icon to the left. Underneath is a quote from them in yellow text: "A couple of my longest lasting friends are those I met in the JnD fandom back on Livejournal.I love the creativity we’ve all maintained over the year and how this series that spans so much time and is full of so many wonderful characters brought us all together. I love how bright it can be in spite of its own darkness and all the love that everyone who worked on the games put into it. I still have so much concept art and screenshots saved. And I still have some wonderful friends because of these games!".

Tutorial notes: Believability & story will make an image more appealing than realistic rendering. Detail is the least important part of art that takes the most time to do. If your shapes are wrong or your form is wrong adding detail is wasted effort. Theory + practical = far faster learning.

The path to creative freedom: Make what you want. Don’t ask permission. Don’t explain. Don’t apologize. Don’t read comments to see if fans disapprove (or have a fave). Do read comments for technical feedback, AKA: “I don’t get what happened on this panel / page.” Commit wholly to your concept

Settings -> accessibility This option makes it so you can't post until you fill out the alt text. Alt text helps blind users & it also gives you more space to type - just don't put URLs in there (screen readers will read it & that sucks). It's per login so you have to set it per device! Worth it

It's a screen shot of the accessibility screen that says alt text and then I have a checkbox that says "require alt text before posting". Mine is checked.

What I didn't realize is that it's per device so I posted last night without it since I was on my iPad and then I had to add alt text in a comment.
