I'd like to mince words, but I can't. This is absolutely fucking idiotic and you should stop using this analogy.

Yeah, that was it. Definitely the story that stood out in that compilation for me. And then I tried to reread some of the other Dragonlance books and... whew. I mean, they just are not to my taste anymore, for sure.

Ah, you just dredged up memories of my junior high French class where my teacher explained back then how that French society devoted to the purity of the French language was mad about 'le weekend'.

The only Dragonlance-era book I can still stomach even thinking about reading is one of the story compilations, I can't remember which one, I just know it has a story about a corps of dragonman engineers.

"People want consequences, not investigations", is literally what you just wrote. So "people" don't want things investigated, they just want consequences. But that's not how the law OR justice should work. And you won't know who is innocent or not WITHOUT investigations.

Ray @rayearth.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
If you don't want to be looking over the edge into fascism, you need investigations BEFORE consequences. Also this obsession with throwing lawyers into jail is just kind of weird.

Ray @rayearth.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
Even if that were the full quote, how do you establish that under the law as it is, not the law that you want to be?

Judging these peoples' reactions doesn't require encyclopedic knowledge of Astarion. It merely requires looking at the intensity and depth of their reactions and understanding them for what they are.

He is definitely described as having an equine face with large, flat teeth like an herbivore, on his initial introduction, so yeah, I always summed horse-faced more literally than derogatorily.

Honestly I'm most amused by the way he tried to hold himself out as a Superior Intellect(tm) and when he got challenged on it, resorted to threatening violence and talking about how he used to be in the Air Force and was a street thug and beat up sooooo many people, you guys, nothing personnel, kid.

I'm questioning YOUR reading comprehension, because I don't know why you felt the need to try and 'All Lives Matter' this shit, and every subsequent thing you said makes it sound more and more like you participated in shit like what happened at Cornell but don't want to admit it.

--and not many women. @izzos.net, is that just the REPORTED offenses? We know that a lot of offenses don't GET reported, for a host of reasons.

Ray @rayearth.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Interestingly, the comic never says anything about 'all men'. I think you just told on yourself and now you're scrambling to cover, like you're acting offended because 'how dare', but since Dan helpfully provided the actual statistics just for 2026: It's a whole fucking lot of men--

You'd think that a big-time engineer who's never failed so badly that people died would understand how a simple block works.
000
Ray @rayearth.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
You're gonna have to provide some statistics to back that shit up, boyo. Also, like Dan said--if you feel called out, that's on you, and those are your feelings to manage, not anyone else's.

to build off of. Brian offered you that knowledge, as did others, and you spat in his face because you are riding on your high engineer horse. But what's happened is, you just sound emptily arrogant, kind of like our latest president.

Ray @rayearth.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Frankly? You sound like a prideful idiot. You think, what? Because you learned to be an engineer, you can 'synthesize' and 'imagine' your knowledge? Book learning isn't useless, and engineering doesn't teach you how to know everything. Fuck, you should know that you need a base of knowledge

CLAMP loves their age gaps. Like, REALLY loves their age gaps. It's probably the most objectionable thing about their stories. Because it gets pretty extreme... (Looking at you CCS)

It's like he got his engineering qualifications and decided, well, that's it. Honest question: do engineering disciplines not have the idea of a continuing education?
330
Ray @rayearth.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
Okay but that doesn't mean anything when you're talking about the law. Why is it almost always engineers? Do you just think you know or can figure out everything? So you're resistant to actually learning now that you're an engineer? Who the fuck cares? You don't know the law and that's obvious.

Ray @rayearth.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
I daresay that Brian would be far more successful at explaining the legal nuances to you if you were interested in actually learning about them instead of holding on to your bias and your ego.

Ray @rayearth.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
You clearly know you're in the wrong, so why not just admit it? What's all this shitty ego posturing for?

Ray @rayearth.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
When you make the argument that the Fairness Doctrine 'allowed' the right wing media to proliferate and you rant about Fox News, you very much ARE arguing for it. And you're being corrected because You. Are. Wrong. I am a total layman in these matters. I'm not a lawyer of any stripe. I'm not in

And yet, like you, they squawk about bringing it 'back', as if that would magically fix something, put FOX News/Breitbart/whatever out of business, and we'd have nothing but the unbiased truth airing forever. Without once, ever, thinking about, say, the assault on the free press that is CURRENTLY

Ray @rayearth.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
You're posting at an account LITERALLY DEVOTED to correcting people about the Fairness Doctrine. It's literally IN THEIR NAME. And the point is that people who talk about "The Fairness Doctrine" oftentimes don't understand what it was, what it did, and what it didn't do.

Ray @rayearth.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
I just think you're a little too obsessed over this and are handling whatever feelings you're having in an unhealthy way, and that there are better, more constructive/productive ways to channel these feelings. Like I said, writing fanfiction, or doing anything other than whatever this is.

that I absolutely hated, you know what I'd do? Move the fuck on. Fandoms have got to let go of the idea that they own, or have some say, about a character. You want to do that? Write some fanfiction. Do some fanart. Not... this, whatever this is.

It's a fucking tie-in book! I love games. I love art. But acting like this is some personal insult that needs to be corrected is horseshit. I don't care if you love the book or hate it. This is just too much. I bet I love games as much as you do, and you know what? If there were a piece of tie-in

This is a pretty privileged position to take, indicative of someone for whom 'the other side's' politics are not of THAT much import. Or do you think it's 'fun' for people whose lives and rights are threatened to figure out if it's the 'values' or the 'facts', over an egg salad sandwich?

Without fail, every time I see someone on this here website say something about reinstituting the "Fairness Doctrine", they always get defensive when they are educated on what it was and what it did, as opposed what the name made it SOUND like it did. Why is that?

I mean... some titles are just known that way. And that's fine and good and dandy. Azumanga Daioh. Nichijou. (If someone told me they loved watching "Daily Life" I'd be confused as heck.) But it doesn't make those titles inherently BETTER than the translated title.
