I think Eberron: Rising from the Last War does it pretty well, and it‘s a good model to follow. Character options are up first (most people will look at that before anything else), then world lore, and then GM options at the back. Players can comfortably read most of the book with no spoilers.

Hey, I play a lot of D&D, but there are tons of fun RPGs out there. Here are just a few I recommend: - Call of Cthulhu - Dungeon Crawl Classics - Skate Wizards - Anything by @gshowitt.bsky.social - Cairn - Rebel Scum - Monster of the Week - Broken Tales - Pendragon

Posted this over on Instagram, thought I’d post it here too. I hope UKGE see this and hear us.

It’s undeniable I had a great time, but I’m including this last graphic, and imploring UKGE to take the discontent around AI ‘creators’ more seriously.

As an attendee AND an exhibitor, I am SO disappointed that there is still no official stance or implemented anti-AI policy when other cons, big and small, have them. I still found exhibitors that used AI in their products, and that stand space could have gone to genuine creators that enrich this community with their creativity.

I hope that the existence of two panels discussing the topic of how damaging AI can be (which notably were on at the same time...), and the popular ‘Human Made’ signs that so many exhibits displayed proudly are noted as a sign of just how many people do NOT want AI at this con.

Con-goers asked us about our stance on AI before purchasing.

Listen to your traders.
Listen to your attendees.

This matters.

I like my local Bricks & Minifigs, but with everything going on with Reckless Ben and the corporate morons stealing Brian’s life savings, I can’t in good conscience continue to support them. At least until they make it right—if their business survives this self-made nightmare. #Lego

For real! There‘s so many awesome creators out there, plus tons of older stuff available for really cheap. And you don’t really even need that stuff…just pen, paper, and (optional) dice can still make for a fun time!

Rayce Patterson @raycepatterson.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

Each one of those could and should be their own courses honestly! Definitely will hit on wandering monsters (and the importance of empty rooms) and traps, but I think I only have 15-20 minutes lol.

Excited to share I’ll be teaching Dungeon Design (specifically the putting things in a dungeon part) at my local TTRPG camp this summer! What are some things you wish you knew when you first started building and GM-ing dungeons?

Rayce Patterson @raycepatterson.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

Thank you! I’ll have to let her know you said so!

010

Rayce Patterson @raycepatterson.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

That sounds really cool! And yes, I was responding from a D&D-centered pov since that’s what the original video was talking about. I’m familiar with some ttrpgs that are more collaborative and less GM-centric, but do you have any recommendations?

120

Rayce Patterson @raycepatterson.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

I understand what you’re saying, and I think part of it is the games he runs are for a streaming audience. The narratives at Critical Role and D20 need to be tighter or more cohesive to fit within the bounds of an actual play. I think you’re right, but Brennan just views his games differently.

010

Rayce Patterson @raycepatterson.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

Yes, the GM is a player, and all players contribute to the game at the table (and I don’t think Brennan is advocating otherwise), but the burden of the story telling isn’t distributed equally. I don’t know many D&D games where everyone shows up, looks at each other, and decides what to do that day.

Rayce Patterson @raycepatterson.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

There’s also nothing unnatural about giving breadcrumbs and clues for PCs to follow. A treasure chest in an empty room should be met with suspicion, and soft ground beneath a statue says ”DIG HERE.” The PCs are free to make any decision they like, but they need to know a decision is possible.

110

Rayce Patterson @raycepatterson.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

…Interesting take, but I don’t think it acknowledges the realities of a game master. A GM does have more narrative control than PCs because they’re the only player that can introduce outside forces to the story. A PC can have a villain or rival in their backstory, but only the GM can make them enter

Congrats! This is actually my wife’s OC, Willow. She’s a Druid in a magical school/YA-themed campaign. Illustrations done by a friend also in the campaign.

Image of Willow using Hero Forge. She has bronze skin and blonde hair, with deer horns and antlers peaking out of the hair. She has a purple and blue battle skirt and corset on, with a pair of knee-length dark books and a purple cape to match.

Illustration of Willow, this time in a flowy light blue ballgown with long princess sleeves. The bottom of the dress is caked in mud.

Another illustration of Willow. Here she’s wearing a cropped white tank with diamonds on it and blue jeans. On top, she wears a long black overcoat, a blue scarf, and a leather brown messenger bag.

Congrats! I‘m actually submitting my wife’s OC, Holly. Art is from a friend in the campaign who likes to doodle.

Character model of Holly designed on Hero Forge. Holly has light colored skin with blonde way hair, with two horns and deer ears poking out. She’s wearing a purple and blue battle dress with a matching cape, and knee-high black boots. She wields an ornate quarterstaff.

A drawing of Holly in a long, blue ball gown. The gown has princess sleeves and a long hem, which is covered in mud up to the knees.

A drawing of Holly, wearing blue jeans, and a beige crop top. On top she wears a long black coat, a blue scarf, and a brown leather messenger bag.
