Cherry Orchard is a community that will be transformed over the next few years, with thousands of new homes and a major revamp of Cherry Orchard Park. A public library would be a fantastic addition to the area...

Very local update - this bus stop blocks the sightline of cars pulling out onto Walkinstown Avenue. I asked before to have it moved, it got lost in the bureaucracy. I've asked again, maybe this time will be more successful?

My colleague @janetphorner.bsky.social proposed a motion on Monday calling for Dublin to be allowed charge a hotel bed tax. I spoke in favour because I think this makes sense, but more generally, because local authorities should have more control over how they raise money and how they spend it.

The Reach Out programme helps people in prison learn to communicate better with their children outside - something that can help break the cycle of incarceration for individuals and across generations. It's effective, but isn't getting the funding it needs.

If you need somewhere safe and secure to keep your bike, but don't have space in your home, a bikebunker may be the solution. Ask to have one installed in your area, or see if there's space in one nearby, at bikebunkers.ie

I was at Cherry Orchard Point less than a year ago for the sod-turning. Yesterday, I went back to mark the completion of the first block. All of the internal work is yet to be done, but it's still great to see the progress here, and we're one step closer to families moving in.

Dublin bikes are great for the city. But they don't cover all of the city. The new contract is a chance to change that, to bring Dublin bikes to Walkinstown, Drimnagh, Inchicore, Bluebell, Chapelizod, Ballyfermot, Cherry Orchard...

The Lansdowne Valley consultation is still open! I was at the information meeting last week, and there people who liked it, and people who had problems. I think we can address those problems (or most of them), but still deliver a new park and greenway - and they are worth the trouble.

I joined the D12 Bike Bus on their way to school this morning, and talked to Stu afterwards. The kids love being active, meeting their friends, getting fresh air, and being independent - all they need is for us to make the streets safer.

Inspiring and energising series of meetings with @tomflood.bsky.social and a host of other advocates, all asking the question, "How do we make our streets safe for children to walk, cycle, and play?"

Esker Square is the new development on the old Royal Liver site, on the Naas Road and Kylemore Road. We got more details this week on the plans for phase 2, which will contain another 600 apartments, plus a supermarket, creche, retail units, and cafes/restaurants.

We can't delay every road safety measure while we wait for a BusConnects project that has no schedule. The NTA needs to release a timetable for BusConnects.

Quick update on a site in Inchicore that will start construction soon. I'm asking that construction traffic be sent through the industrial estate, not the residential streets.

The Lansdowne Valley greenway will double the size of Lansdowne Valley park, and make it accessible to many more people. I think it's brilliant. Please take part in the consultation (link in my profile), and let me know if you have any questions.

The decision to increase public transport fares, and the ongoing failure to invest in public transport services, is going to hurt those who rely on public transport, and is going to push people into private cars - increasing congestion, pollution, and emissions.

Make public transport better and cheaper and more people will use it. Same goes for bike share. The new contract has to keep the cost of dublinbikes low. Come to the meeting on Wednesday and tell us what you think.

"A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It's where the rich use public transportation." People will use public transport if the service is good and fares are low. So the government has stopped investing in services and is increasing fares. Stop the madness. Join the protest.

There are 61 homes open to Choice-Based Lettings applications in Balfe Court, Walkinstown - 5 3-bedroom houses, 27 2-bed apartments, and 29 1-bed apartments. It's a great location, with shops and schools nearby.

We should only grant permission to new data centres if they meet some basic environmental conditions - use renewable energy, leave enough over to allow us to decarbonise the grid, and connect to district heating schemes instead of wasting heat and water.

DublinBikes has been a big success, enabling millions of journeys in the city. But most of the city isn't covered. That has to change in the new contract.

I was on Newstalk Breakfast this morning to talk about the worrying number of fish kills in our rivers this year. We have to make a decision. Do we want healthy, living rivers? Or are we willing to sacrifice our natural heritage for increased dairy production?

Dublin City Council are sending out Housing Needs Assessment forms to people on the housing list. There are some exceptions but, in general, you need to return the completed form to keep your place on the housing list.

Intensifying agriculture production is leading to more pollution in our rivers. And climate change is making those rivers more vulnerable to pollution. If we allow this to continue, our river life will collapse completely.

This old factory has been closed for decades. There is planning permission for apartments here, but no sign of any work happening. It's on the derelict sites register, but doesn't appear on the Residential Zoned Land Tax map. I'll be following up on this with the council.

The Chapelizod Hill Road cycle lane is a good idea, but it won't stop the trucks getting stuck under the bridge - and it really highlights the enormous gap in safe cycling infrastructure in the centre of the village.

Modern climate denialism is not so crude as to actually deny climate change - the clever thing is to say you take it very seriously, while not doing anything about it. The Irish government could give lessons in delay and avoidance...

The proposed two-way cycle lane on Chapelizod Hill Road makes a lot of sense, separating pedestrians, cyclists, and cars. I'll be making a supportive submission. Follow the link in my profile to see the details, and make your own submission.
