Santiago Rusiñol's picture is of his friend Miquel Utrillo seated in front of a stove desperately trying to keep warm in the winter of 1890 in the apartment they shared in Orient Street in Paris. Utrillo had just begun working as art critic for the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.

I've always had a strong spiritual connection with the energy and profound meanings of nature and its creatures, even mythological ones. The centaur admirably represents respect, protection, and courage. This exquisite painting by the great artist Mart Sander has captivated me in a surprising way..

Joan Miró : Self-Portrait I Paris, October 1937-March 1938 Pencil, crayon, and oil on canvas 57.5 x 38.25 in | 146.1 x 97.2 cm The Museum of Modern Art
In November 1936, five months after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, Miró went to Paris for a brief visit; because of increasingly perilous conditions in Catalonia, that visit turned into 4 years of involuntary exile.

By January 1937, he decided to “do something absolutely different.” Using a magnifying mirror to enlarge his face by as much as 3 times, Miró worked on Self-Portrait I for nearly half a year.

The painting presents a complex image of the artist, at once a declaration of his identity - Miró considered the work one of the most important of his life - and a reflection of the uncertain conditions under which he was living.

We all know what spaceships look like. But how do artists depict time machines? Sign up for my art blog newsletter and you'll find out in tomorrow's issue: 70s-sci-fi-art.ghost.io Here's the sneak peek: Josh Kirby, Trevor Webb, Karel Thole, and Richard Powers
A handful of figures in strange red spacesuits ignore gravity to walk along a twisted yellow path that hangs in outer space. At the end is a doorway portal, with a string of other, increasingly smaller doors behind it stretching into the distance.A blue spherical ship flies through a red vortext with gold stars in it.An old guy sits in a mechanical chair built on a floor made out of a clock face, with a globe hooked up to it. The background is four different scenes or time periods, including one that's a Roman city.A man sits in the center of a dark machine built like a jungle gym with lights on it. The background is a foggy dark red, and the shadow of a dinosaur is to the right.

I'm always fascinated by the painter's ability to bring light to the canvas, which is always magical for me. The great artist T.M.Davy creates an exceptional painting where the delicate lightness of the atmosphere is rendered intimate and sophisticated. The soul of the portrait whispers loudly...
