Down observing the AI Counter Summit today for something I’m working on. It’s been organised by the CWU as a response to the Government’s AI Summit next week - which is predominantly based around speakers from corporations, with just one union rep on any of the panels.

Another example of Martin turning legitimate, public action into a 'threat to democracy'. "There doesn't need to be a picket, and I'm saying to all concerned, parliamentary democracy matters, and we shouldn't be just lightly chipping away at it." www.rte.ie/news/ireland...

More headmasterly attacks on public sector workers from Micheál Martin on Newstalk today. As if workers are choosing to strike on a whim, rather than after years of eroding living standards and being taken for granted. Workers don't need another lecture. They need a better deal. #IrelandOnStrike

Was thinking this morning the only positive thing about a live televised execution by a firing squad of soldiers is that they’ve yet to move onto using kids selected by a “voluntary” lotto to carry out the deed.

A year ago, school secretaries & caretakers took to the pickets. Yesterday, they voted for a deal. It's not perfect, but it's their victory. As we face more historic public sector strikes next week, let's take inspiration from them. Workers who fight together can win. #IrelandOnStrike

Tasty collection of horror lit here for the spooky season. Knock Knock, Open Wide by Ben Sharpson was a recent fave of mine. Blending Irish folklore with that sort of fuzzy hauntological scar we all have of there being something just not right with shows like Bosco... www.nypl.org/books-more/r...

When people talk about looking to the Dail for political leadership in a time of crisis, this generally isn't what they mean - but I'm into it! Precarious broadcast workers potentially pulling the plug on Budget Day just as a wider strike wave gathers force... Yum.

Eamonn McCann is always razor sharp in his analysis of the North. Garvagh road is not a difference between ‘two communities’ that needs ‘both sides’ understood. It only benefits the DUP and hardline loyalists to force us to revisit a terrible time in the North. rebelnews.ie/2026/10/02/g...

Have been a regular for ~35 years at Lansdowne but couldn’t stomach it this evening. None of us took our season ticket seats. Would have enjoyed seeing that goal live but struggling to articulate how we feel about this team. It was good to see the protest there despite RTÉ cutting away a lot.

There's no doubt better DVD versions of this sitting on a hard drive somewhere. There were screenings in the IFI and across college campuses. When you consider the native resolution of DVD is 720 x 576 pixels, you get a real sense of the absolutely rapid evolution of video in the past two decades.
