The npcs are fun. The kids are actually the best hands down. One thing I CAN complain about is debris accumulation is SO fast. Rocks, branches, and weeds you can't walk through just spawn so quickly. Trees grow crazy fast. Its just an ongoing battle trying to lay out paths so you can actually move

Chickens, cows, ducks, rabbits, and sheep are all here as usual but you can also get llamas and capyburas. Mines are full ass ecosystems with their own foragables and artifacts... I like the combat more despite it not being all that different from SV in concept. Animal crossing type fishing...

And I think that leads us to Fields of Mistria. It certainly is closer to Stardew than some of these others. Farming, ranching, mining, fishing with added bug catching and archeology wings to the big museum. There's about five billion items. Breeding is fun because you get wild as hell colors.

Ive touched Paleo Pines' demo. I really like the dinosaur collecting mechanic. Its clearly more ranching focused, though i couldn't tell you more because I'll be real i just got distracted befriending as many dino species as possible without thinking about it. Ill have to revisit it someday.

You will inevitably still be the one donating more food but it feels more substantial in Grimshire. I haven't even gotten that far into the plot yet. Villagers are interesting, the livestock are cute weird creatures that look like sea slugs or mushroom camel things and other things.

And of course the happenings on the outside continue to effect the village, be it soldiers demanding rations or pirates promising you "safety", there will always be challenges on your food stores. I mentioned the communal thing and its because the villagers do contribute a decent amount to it too.

Its focus is food preservation. Smoking, drying, fermenting, jarring, and many more!! Growing the food is good but fresh produce perishes and rots over time. You need to help fill the cellar so you all survive winter. There are also herbivores AND carnivores in this town. You need to feed them both.

Now this sounds cool but they are all HUGE. It's honestly too much space. Now, Sun Haven has multi-player and I honestly think these farm sizes are meant for that. Also I'm gonna be real with you, it's kind of glitch. Idk if they've fixed it yet but it was very funny seeing npc sprites kind of-

Tried Sun Haven. First one i put some real hours into. Has an actual plot, full fantasy with magic,elves, fae folk, demons, mermaids, multiple cities, interesting enough characters, an actually insane character creator, and my actually least favorite thing about the game: farms in each city.

Since SV I've been looking for more. Tried My Time in Portia. Not bad at all, primarily crafting focused. It's cute. The world is actually pretty interesting but i didnt get sucked in enough. Got Story of Seasons: Olive Town. Unfortunate. Just kind of boring tbh. Townsfolk were just kind of bland.

Blah blah blah it was a hit blah blah the madman kept adding huge updates to the game to the point where I bought it on the switch because I felt bad I couldn't pay him more after the game became like 3x its original size. I like the multiple farm types it's oddly one of my fav things. It's neat.

make a joke about the fishing but it really REALLY wasnt that bad once you got the hang of it, it was just much trickier than fishing had been at the time because full mini games for it in a farmsim wasnt really a thing at the time, and WAY harder at the start when you have zero skills.

I think I didnt like the mechanics much after harvest moon's. Then there was a huge gap because college happened and I couldn't afford games much less consoles to play them on. And I had a freaking Mac which had NOTHING comparable with it!!! NOTHING Stupid art major recommended slab of metal...

Which meant I could pretend I was a little gay boy romancing the bigger wolf man. Except turned out the game was stupid in that the girl player couldn't initiate a marriage proposal. You had to wait for the NPC GUY to do it. And the guy I picked was APPARENTLY notoriously hard to get him to do that

Yeah It's a Wonderul Life. I liked how cozy it was. Really small town with weird people and, weirdly enough, no harvest goddess showing up to plead for you to heal the land or whatever. Just some sprites only you can see and to get into their house you eat mushrooms and I assume trip BALLS.

I like farming sims a lot so I've tried a fair variety. When I like a type of game I try to find something that scratches that itch. Back in ye olden days I was first introduced to farming sims through Harvest Moon: It's a Wonderful Life. Despite how old I am my first console was the gamecumbe so..

Three more days of vacation... honestly I'm not sure if I feel its done anything. I did draw that one piece for fun, I made a PomPom blob universe sculpture that I really should add the final details for and seal... I also made this pillow from my last kiwico craft box. (Both are also feel more polished than another farm sim I like, Sun Haven, which pushes into Too Much Stuff and feeling a bit spread thin because of it. Still one i enjoy, but very differently than how I enjoy SV and FoM)

I adore Mistria, im having a lot of fun with it, but it feels wrong to compare it to Stardew Valley in a competitive way. Always remember Stardew Valley was made by one guy, ok? I hold SV in more of an impressive light because of this. They both have their strengths lets not be weird about it.

I like Mistria a lot, but I hope people know that the depth of writing/art/details was made possible because it was funded by the Pusheen empire. Of course anyone can do QOL features and good writing, but if you *really* want 60+ hours of content, that takes a loooot of money and time!
