Raging against the dying of the LPs by finding time to play Swans albums right the way through (on CD). Today it has been Birthing, played loud & soundtracking chores, sitting, dancing, more chores, cooking, cleaning and finally just listening with my eyes closed.
The album sleeve is a Coil - Time Machines -esque mysterious black circle or abyss on pale brown / cardboard.

Watched Agnes Varda’s Le Bonheur (Happiness) 1964 in a v rare break from football & it turned out to be devastating, sad & very beautiful in a different way. Slow(ish) cinema but mesmerisingly shot & you like everyone in it, despite everything. Very French, very mid-60s. A more complex time. #film

Now reading Vanishing World by Sayaka Murata - similar clipped & neurodiverse delivery to Convenience Store Woman with a strange, lightly surreal tale about the end of sex which weirdly reminds me of some of Houellebecq’s ‘science fiction’.

From re-reading American Psycho, I found myself, via some spurious associative chain, wanting to watch Mike Leigh’s Naked (1993) again and was struck by how much it reminded me of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me… Now THERE’S a suggestion for the definitive trilogy of the early 90s

And more or less every page is like this
'Memo From Turner' is almost a detachable promo film for the song, though taken out of context detracts from its pertinence. This is not enter-tainment, pure and simple. Here, as throughout the film, Roeg's camera is always moving, "even manic". Roeg doesn't want his camera to be unobtrusive. "To me, the zoom calls attention to the fact that the camera can go where the human eye can't." Shooting on location helps one to be inventive. Harry Flowers' office was not shot in Lowndes Square, but upstairs in a neglected boardroom, on the top floor above a Chinese restaurant, the Chuen Cheng Ku, at 17 Wardour Street. David Cammell had been involved in a nightclub on those premises some years earlier.
It had quite a reputation, with celebrated visitors, including Princess Margaret. It was called Le Condor, though it is repeatedly mis-written as El Condor. Names have meanings, often mischievous ones. Le Condor is a play on 'Le Con d'or,' the golden cunt, and has a literary allusion, to a book by Louis Aragon, writing as Albert de Routisie. His infamous secret novel, Le Con d'Irène, first appeared in 1928 in Paris, hand in hand with, and bearing the same discreet publishing mark as, Georges Bataille's first edition of Story of the Eye (using the pseudonym Lord Auch), both supplied with relevant illustrations by André Masson.
Memo From Turner' was written by Cammell and Jagger, playing on ideas that merged the two worlds. With Turner dressed as Harty Flowers, poised and posed in the office where the business operates, earlier events are paralleled and merged. Chas' new boss and father figure becomes the analyst, leading him through the tunnels, mocking their lifestyle and confronting his sexuality. Asked to strip off, all the associates are set in action, with Chas the only exception. He doesn't strip. This is Chas' viewpoint.
But Chas never saw the Magritte painting propped against the mirror.
Observer and observed. Bifurcating. This must be Turner too, the analyst entering t…

Only about half way through but depressing that Houellebecq feels more like realism as every year passes. Very much ‘not for everyone’ but also grimly fascinating.
