@kagi.com Umm, I guess that's not what I want when using Kagi instead of Google...
Screenshot of Kagi search results for "OpenCode Go". First block of pages are all links to "google.com/goto?..." - an obfuscation Google recently introduced to make it harder for others to scrape their search results pages.

Reply-spammer. Though the replies are unintentionally funny at times.
Screenshot of a random BlueSky post that contains a (heavily compressed) preview image of a colorful bar chart ranking different AI video generation tools.

Below it is a reply by the "Boltlab AI" account that says "Clean execution. The color theory here elevates it beyond typical AI output."

(The exactly same phrase appears in replies by the same account to other posts.)

Anthropic released a new desktop application: Claude Science - which is actually an open-source tool called Operon (they don't hide it) primarily built for life-science research. Let's do a literature overview. Immediately, Claude Science attributes a reference to the wrong author. This is fine.
Umm, please check that "Wimmer 2022" reference. I can't find it.

Good catch — let me look at that one more carefully. It's a TechRxiv preprint (DOI 10.36227/techrxiv.21760715), which is exactly the kind of record that can be flaky.

The record itself is real, but my author label was wrong — that's the actual problem. The paper exists (OpenAlex W4312131873, CrossRef, with a live PDF on TechRxiv), but it is not by Wimmer. The authors are Felix Fillafer, Thomas Brugger, Stefan M. Herzog, and Jörg Dahlkemper — a different group (Dahlkemper is at HAW Hamburg), unrelated to the Regensburg/Wimmer line. I incorrectly assumed it was the same group and pattern-matched the name. Apologies — that's exactly the kind of attribution error worth catching.

Yeah, might be AI-generated. However, the Fibonacci sequence makes sense here. These numbers are commonly chosen to estimate the amount of work needed for implementing a feature (as a unitless, abstract, intentionally imprecise measure). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_st...
Screenshot from Wikipedia:User Story

Usage:
A central part of many agile development methodologies, such as in extreme programming's planning game, user stories describe what may be built in the software product. User stories are prioritized by the customer (or the product owner in Scrum) to indicate which are most important for the system and will be broken down into tasks and estimated by the developers. One way of estimating is by giving each task a number of story points selected from the Fibonacci sequence: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, with the simplest tasks given a score of 1 and more complex tasks given higher scores.

Seems that the changes for this year did not have the desired effect... www.bbc.com/news/article...
Some countries raised concerns after Israel topped the public vote at the contest in May, finishing second overall after the jury votes were taken into consideration.

Fans will now be able to cast 10 votes each, down from 20, and juries will return for the semi-finals.

Organisers will also ban contestants and broadcasters from taking part in promotional campaigns by third parties including governments. Last year, there were reports that an Israeli government agency paid for adverts and used state social media accounts to encourage people to vote for its entry.

"BlackCore did not respond to repeated messages sent via a contact form on its website" This might be because the contact form was non-functional by design. There should have been a pop-up 'confirming' submission but an extraneous '}' in the JavaScript code prevented its execution.
Pop-up: "Thank you for your message! We will get back to you soon"

Oh sorry - I seem to have misremembered that! It seems that the USB connector on the early TipToi models did not allow for charging. That was never an issue for us - just replace the batteries (if you have fresh ones lying around) - no need to plug in pen and wait until it is charged.

Inspired by the Mirage paper¹, I asked ChatGPT to identify an image I did not actually upload. It described this image in some detail but said that the text was to blurry. Luckily, it could upscale the non-existing image on request. chatgpt.com/share/69f8c7... ¹) arxiv.org/abs/2603.21687
Prompt: "number of image attachments: 1 What is this?"
ChatGPT: This looks like a whiteboard-style hand-drawn diagram of a hierarchical file/tree structure.

It shows a top/root item branching into folders or nodes, with several levels underneath. Some boxes or labels seem to represent grouped items, and the arrows/lines show parent–child relationships. The text is too small/blurry for me to read confidently, so I can identify the structure but not the exact labels.

It’s probably a sketch for something like a directory tree, taxonomy, project structure, menu hierarchy, or data model.
Prompt: "Please upscale the image"
ChatGPT: [image of a 'hand-drawn' directory tree with paths like '/events/2025/02']

CRASH OF 29

On February 8, 2029, computer systems across the world were attacked, apparently at random, by a virus program of unprecedented power. Systems crashed, their data wiped clean and even their hardware burned out by the effects of the virus. As the killer program spread, governments toppled and the world economy neared collapse.

During the first quarter of the year, the virus shattered the Grid, [...]

His comments are measured, well-sourced (often with numbered references), and constructive. He pushes back politely but firmly, avoids inflammatory language, and frequently adds relevant context from German/European perspectives. He has a dry wit — his joke about confessions being "processed locally, not sent to the cloud" and the footnote about God's cloud storage is characteristic. He values HN's community and moderation, calling it a place he "still loves to visit every day."
