the universe probably lends itself in some way to human conscious experience, as in our conscious experience is not an arbitrary construction but somehow easier for the universe to create than other ones. emotions & sight w/ optical illusions might be low hanging fruit

not floaters. more like a medium itself than something suspended in a medium, showing up at the blurry threshold between my hand and the outside, looks more like the art that i was replying to in that quoted tweet

Nov 16 1948 Israeli foreign minister: "Israel would welcome the creation of an independent Arab State in Palestine" June 15 1949 "our aim is peace, and peace negotiations. We have always declared that we should prefer to see a separate Arab State in that area"

meanwhile Israel was consistently pro two state solution in all these talks

September 18 1948, Progress Report by the UN Mediator found "Arab unwillingness to undertake any step which would suggest even tacit acceptance of partition, and by their insistence on a unitary State in Palestine."

July 3 1948 Transjordanian PM: "Our position is clear, and has been proclaimed on every occasion. It is never to allow the creation of a Jewish State in Palestine and to exclude partition. And our object is to cooperate with the other Arab States in her deliverance."

it was run by the brits 1920-1948 after the fall of the ottomans. the 1939 white paper: - establish an independent, arab-majority state - limit Jewish immigration to 75,000 - restrict jews' ability to buy land - rejected by Arab reps who thought it didn't go far enough for them

raph @raph.bsky.social · 17/10/2023
This is a constant thing. They rejected an independent Palestinian state in 1939 because it did not go far enough. They rejected anything but an Islamic one-state solution in 1948/1949. Hamas's charter makes explictly clear their goal to kill all Jews. Etc

if GPT4 experienced "relevant consciousness" that'd imply re-doing a multiply at the end of your hand calculated output would make GPT4 re-experience whatever it experienced. No— it's just what you experience, and what the pen and paper experience. GPUs ~don't feel.

raph @raph.bsky.social · 08/10/2023
Unlikely that digital computers experience relevant levels of consciousness Computers are v constrained physically. Consciousness dust. If we calculated GPT4 output by hand, the only experience there is ours (relevant) and the pen+paper (irrelevant). Not "GPT4" / "information processing"

Just out "Robustness and complexity of directed and weighted metabolic hypergraphs" (arxiv.org/abs/2310.03623). We propose a new hypergraph-based representation of metabolic networks that captures HOI among metabolites and reactions, preserving all essential information.

Words are an extremely lossy projection of reality Demanding legibility is telling people to exist in a way that minimizes that loss. To conform to lives that can be easily fully described in a few words. It’s anti-cozy, anti-emergence, anti-life

Very exciting - API Routes in Expo Router - Less context switching 😌 - Backend typescript in your app repo that "just works" will be huge for new devs vs firebase headaches. With snack.expo.dev, much easier for kids to get into app dev - React Native Server Components?! 🤯 S/O @bacon.bsky.social
