I thought DIGGER was magnificent. Echoes of Dr Strangelove, A Face in the Crowd, Barton Fink, Brazil, 22 Monkeys, 8 1/2, Network... It's farce and it's satire and it's brilliant and heartbreaking and man... The acting, the writing, the unexpected reveals. I'm so glad we saw it in the theater.

On the flight back from Germany, the in flight entertainment system had Van Halen's album A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH, and since I was in the air for 21 hours, I gave it a listen for the first time since it came out. This is a MUCH better album than I remember, with great songs & performances.

I was Senior Class President in 1986, and this weekend was my 40th Class Reunion. Which is impossible, as that would imply I am old.

Fucking heartbroken this morning.

When we did the Iron Maiden: Piece of Mind graphic novel, we included quotes from folks across the spectrum of art, science, technology, music and writing to show just how far-spanning the influence and impact of the band was. So, given the narrative of Persepolis, one of the first people I reached out to was Marjane Satrapi. She wrote a very kind note back saying that she still loved Iron Maiden, but because of her project schedule, she wouldn't be able to contribute, but also she wished us the best of luck and success with the book. I was a little disappointed, but also thought "life is long, and it still remains a goal to work with her someday"

But it's not long enough, all too often.

Waking to the news of Marjane's death, I'm so heartbroken and find it almost impossible to reconcile the loss. She's one of the best that ever wielded a pen, and a perfect example of how powerful the art form can be. I wish we had another 50 years with her.

Godspeed Marjane. Thank you.

This album is one of the seminal influences on my formative years, and thus... With the remastered/remixed re-release, I've been in a state of bliss for the last week as I revisit it, with all the emotional and creative power it had for me in 1984. Different Germany feels like prophecy for the US.

I have a few, but this is my prized possession. @scottmccloud.bsky.social sold it to me (I think) the first year I attended SDCC as a pro. (1989). It was the first issue of ZOT! I purchased, and it was a life-changer for me in so many ways. It is, for me, a perfect comic page.
