The main thing that's kept us safe is your mother's reputation. They think she's the bitch queen from hell. She set up the biggest 'mongrel' pack in living memory, and hid it well enough for us to grow strong. And they hold her responsible for setting up all the new packs in Britain. It's not just her own children who are a threat to them and their beliefs, it's all the Shapeshifting people, all over the country, who are happy in their packs. They're scared of her.

The tension and pace intensify in this third novel in the series. Jeanette Greaves' writing is so well crafted that we remain engaged with the story throughout. We've learned to love the characters and we hold our breath as they continue on their journey. What a superb ending. There is a type of closure but it is also left open for the final book which I'm glad to say I shall be reading shortly.

'So, shall I come round now, or do you need an hour or three to prepare before I grace you with my gorgeous presence?'
He heard her laugh, low and wicked. 'Oh, don't worry about preparation time. By the time you arrive I should be well stocked up with missiles. Make sure you're wearing a crash helmet or something.'
'If I thought you meant it ...' he started.
'You'd be here in five minutes, I know. I'll see you soon then?' Her voice had lifted.

I'm looking forward to the next book.

Something made him restless, some tidal pull. He pushed his long dark hair away from his face, and looked around. The cold air felt good on his skin, and he stopped for a moment, catching the scent of the sea, only a mile or so away. He knew the local tides and currents like a lover, and he turned seawards. 'Ransomed Hearts' by Jeanette Greaves.

'When did you last sleep?' Joyce asked her sister. 'When I was last tired.' Diana replied, peering at a knitting pattern, then at a swatch of knitting. 'What do you think of this stitch? I think maybe a smaller needle would do it more justice ...' Joyce rolled her eyes. Knitting patterns could be quite useful, in the right circumstances, but using them to knit with not something she'd ever considered.

UK people, if you don't have a/c, a dehumidifier will help in humid heat. It won't cool the air, but it will help you stay cool by helping your sweat to evaporate faster. Don't forget to stay hydrated, and note that you will need more salt than usual.
