When people use this line of attack against homophobes, transphobes, etc, it feels like they're tacitly endorsing the idea that being gay or trans is bad/embarrassing/scandalous, and is a weapon to use against someone. Unless it's actually true, and they're verifiable hypocrites, don't do this!

I really don’t think that’s the case. I do think that probably these people hate femininity, which they see as weakness. But that doesn’t mean that they are secretly gay or trans. And I think that it does damage to insist that they are. Maybe some are, but definitely not all.

I wonder how modern audiences would react to Mars Attacks, which killed a dog just to balance out the absurdity of the hero survivor dog in Independence Day — — a movie that killed half the world population of humans, including many we knew, but had to save the dog? Truly culturally prescient.

This alone would make a bigger difference to workers' negotiating power than practically any union-favoring policy you could come up with. Employers would HAVE to cater much more to workers' needs if losing your job didn't feel like a potential health disaster for your family.
