Rare sighting in the latest JDE #econtwitter #econsky: a paper about Somalia! Brar et al. show that an intervention targeting gender norms shifts support for gender-equitable norms + aspirations; novel lab-in-the-field evidence of enhanced ability to withstand peer pressure

This chart documents one of humanity’s greatest achievements, in my view. We just lived through the fastest population growth in human history. It would have been impressive if food supplies had merely kept pace — but on every continent, they grew even faster than the population.

JPL is one of NASA's major science and climate centers—home to the Mars rovers and 1000s of people. Firefighters held back the flames at JPL’s gates, but many of our coworkers lost their homes. Here’s a thread of their public GoFundMes if you can share & support however possible:

An interesting way to help people visualize what a ruin used to be.
Old ruin viewed through a glass frame with the original outlines of the building etched onto the glass

Excited to see my JMP in the World Bank DIME Blog today! tinyurl.com/3aa5w7bc Many studies show short-run effects of agricultural shocks on violent conflict. My JMP asks: what about the long-run? I find that desert locust swarm exposure persistently s conflict over the next 14 yrs. A 🧵 1/13
