RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 08/12/2025Demand down in some sectors. Every stage of manufacturing hasn't gotten cheaper, might be the same or more expensive in some stages. The last couple of disasters that set things back I feel still resonate a little. But the primary markets seem mass storage, surveillance, etc 100
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 15/10/2025I don't have a Mendel built at the moment but I do have a bigbox. Here it is printing makerchips. 010
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 03/10/2025Has a certain flexibility, for a US example, Letter and Legal sizes can come from the same roll. Paper wise I would assume rolls are not space efficient given the volume that is the inner core. 010
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 29/09/2025Day 2 of @3dprintopia.bsky.social is in the books. With the power fixed and me having a chance to catch up on all the things I wasn't prepared for we at least got most of the top front row running. Sorry to anyone I couldn't give enough time to, especially on my hectic day one. 031
Reposted by RainMotorsportsThis Old 3D Printer @thisold3dprinter.com · 27/09/2025Come see us this weekend September 27th and 28th at @3dprintopia.bsky.social in Bel Air, Maryland. 072
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 27/09/2025All setup for this year's @3dprintopia.bsky.social Be sure to come say hi and check out the printers. 172
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 21/09/2025Seems like I forgot to edit the tag on that post but @3dprintopia.bsky.social for good measure. 000
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 21/09/2025Want to see the printers I've posted these last 19 days. See all of these and more ready to print live at @3DPrintopia less than 7 days from now. The only real limit is how much electricity I can pump into the booth! 254
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 19/09/2025Bonus photos if you are curious how I brought it back. If you take the top plate off the frame it's carry-on sized! Unfortunately HNL airport checkpoint 3 is only operating 2D X-ray so I had to remove my clothes it was back with and rerun it through security. 000
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 19/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 19. I am currently on a plane flying back with this Makergear M2 Rev A that has had a 24v, Rambo 1.3 & Dual Extruder Upgrade in its lifetime. I have to imagine it's the last printer I acquire before the event so group photos, booth info is next up. 122
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 19/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 18. The latest in my collection is this Lulzbot Taz 6. Not something I was after but its nice to have next to the 4 & 5. A Mini would probably round out this end of the collection. But before I leave Hawaii I'm probably buying another old printer. 022
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 18/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 17 still Hawaii Standard Time. My fourth and final Makerbot Replicator 1 is this single toolhead model I bought for $31. The others are duals so this mixes things up at an inexpensive price. Long term parts donors are also important. 022
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 17/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 16. Later than usual post it's still only 7pm in Hawaii. This Printrbot Plus is my third of the brand. Like the simple it has a Rev D board. I picked this up in Front Royal Virginia and got it printing recently. 033
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 16/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 15. The second Printrbot in the collection was this Simple 2014 model. The previous owner changed the line drive to a belt drive. Seems to have a bit of issues with Z binding/wobble. The RevD is a tight squeeze but can run Marlin 2.1.x or Klipper. 053
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 15/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 14. On my way home from buying a Monoprice Mini Delta the seller informed me he probably should have given me this Solidoodle 2. Weeks later I went back for it. Its currently a project. I've added a 24v heater but it'll be a mess at the show. 033
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 14/09/2025More photos. Here it is after someone handed it to me. The test print I did at the hotel. Finally sitting in the truck I rode home in. I have since written @marlinfw.org and Klipper configs for it. 010
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 14/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 13. This Makergear M2 is quite a bit newer than the original 2012 version. But its a fun one for people who have never seen a bed slinger that raises on Z. I moved this printer during an office move last year but later got it during the decommission 112
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 13/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 12. I avoided it for so long but earlier this year I bought my first printrbot. This simple metal came out of Philadelphia for $10 and now runs @marlinfw.org 2.1.3 Beta 3. Banana for scale. 022
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 12/09/2025Bonus picture. This was it printing back before we changed the extruders. They were difficult to load and he was frustrated. I offered to trade him a Creator Pro for it but it took me awhile to find one so we swapped the Creator Pro extruders in for easy loading first. 010
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 12/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 11. 8th in my collection and 3rd Replicator is the one I rebuilt for someone I met at 3D Printopia in 24. His desire to use the machine helped me learn to put @marlinfw.org on it. In the end we put FlashForge MK10 toolheads in it with part cooling. 112
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 11/09/2025Yes. I still haven't put a 2/2X in my collection so I can take a crack at that version but earlier this year I added the OG Replicator to the Marlin config repo. 110
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 11/09/2025Bonus photos the carry-on in question and the original box which I checked with my clothes inside of it lol. 020
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 11/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 10. 7th in my collection & 2nd Replicator. Original owner Nick Margarone from the Brick Drone Kickstarter used it to start a company. I flew this back from Florida disassembled in my carry-on. It now runs Marlin 2.1.2.5. 2114
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 10/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 9. The 6th classic in my collection and second Ultimaker is this UMO+. The previous owner was gifted it by Ultimaker at an event. The UMO was a great printer for it's time and the heated bed is a must have upgrade that the UMO+ came with stock. 022
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 09/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 8. This Makerbot Thing-O-Matic just arrived. Includes the belted automated build plate. Everything seems functional. I tore it down, cleaned it up and all that's needed is a bit of cable wrap. 023
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 08/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 7. The 5th classic in my collection a @lulzbot3d.bsky.social Taz4 was brought to last year's event by MattsPrintables from a person in the Voron discord. I have seen gone through this printer but I dont seem to have taken many pics. Dual Budaschnozzles! 053
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 07/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 6 I'm late again. The 4th in my collection of classics is the @e3donline.bsky.social BigBox. Seen last year with Georgia and David who later put me in touch with designer Greg Holloway. It now runs and hopefully will spit out some makerchips for me. 032
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 06/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 5. The third classic in the collection was a Lulzbot Taz 5 with dual extruder. I don't seem to have any good shots and it's in my cube waiting for the event. So here's a photo of the extruder. 012
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 05/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 4, posting a bit late. This near mint Makerbot Replicator was the second classic in my collection. This was at the show last year and triggered some events that caused my collection to grow massively this following year. 012
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 04/09/2025Labor is more effective when they can understand the commands! 010
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 04/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 3. This Ultimaker Original was the first classic in my collection. Its running Klipper with inputshaping at 10k accel on the stock MCU. To make life easier I added a spring steel sheet and with a probe in the second hotend slot. 001
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 03/09/2025Countdown to @3dprintopia.bsky.social Day 2. Wait is that ANOTHER Makerbot cupcake? This one needs a bed but it looks like it will also be printing at the event! MK5 Extruder this time. Mechanical relay on the heater goes click clack all print long! 012
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 02/09/2025Count down to @3dprintopia.bsky.social 2025. Day 1 we have a working 2010 MakerBot Cupcake CNC with MK4 extruder that will be at the event and hopefully printing the entire time. Come see this and more at the This Old 3D Printer booth. #3DPrinting 042
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 13/08/2025There are places not to go as there are anywhere. I seriously doubt they are going to actually pay any attention to neighborhoods that have actual problems as that's not what this is about. Shame I missed you the one year you came to ERRF. I wasn't into printing at the time. 010
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 31/07/2025The app which wasn't specified in our checks when I first started installing them gives you the code but you'd have to know about it and it can't verify who or what you are. Every installer, maintaince tech and janitor knows the codes as well. 000
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 31/07/2025Unless specified by the ordering facility it has 3 preprogrammed codes. The code to a public facility used by random people who often didn't know it existed before hande being secret is impossible. They want it to be used. I'd trust the women who designed it, often ordered it to know what's best. 100
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 30/07/2025If you are in there with the dead bolt locked no one can get in there. The code is for the door handle. If you forget the deadbolt the lights turn out and the fans turn off and half the place these are installed are hot so you'll lock it quick to get that fan back on lol. 110
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 30/07/2025Trust me it keeps a lot of people out. When it's in use it's dead bolted. The idea is that any random breastfeeding woman can get into it and for that to be possible it becomes basically public info regardless. 100
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 30/07/2025It would be difficult for a random user in an airport, hospital, etc to use it if they don't have the code. It's just there to keep random peeking while not in use. Almost every place these are women made the decisions on the signage that was installed. I used to install them. 010
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 30/07/2025I used to install these. It's a woman owned company. 8008 is one of the 3 default codes. It stops random peeking. The user locks a deadbolt which also keeps the lights/fan on. Signage is optional, customizable as are the codes for the lock. The app also gives the code. 000
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 30/07/2025It keeps a ton of random people from peeking in for no reason. The user deadbolts it while in use and if they don't the lights/fan turn off. The signage is optional, the default codes include 8008. The app will tell users the code either way. 010
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 30/07/2025I've never installed one with a code reader. 8008 is one of the 3 preprogrammed codes for the off the shelf lock they use. The user locks the deadbolt when it's in use and the lights don't stay on if you fail to. The code keeps a lot of randoms out. 020
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 10/07/2025Y AXIS is mirrored after flashing firmware but can we pretend for a minute the MakerBot Cupcake is printing well? .28 layer height 215 motor pwm at 30 mm/s Stopping the hotend side to side movement may improve this quite a bit. #3dprinting 041
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 07/07/2025Could this be the first time a Voron test cube was printed on a MakerBot cupcake? Hopes are high this will be printing during @3dprintopia.bsky.social 041
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 07/07/2025Breadboarding a replacement for the stepper driver that was blown is probably as close as I will ever come to the type of things people used to do with #reprap. Yeah building printers is cool. But maybe breadboarding an MCU should be a project as well. 011
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 07/07/2025The Makerbot Cupcake CNC is running on all axis now after temporarily swapping the driver board for a bread board. Thanks to @peraf191.bsky.social for the suggestions and info. Repair parts are in the mail though. Printing soon. @3dprintopia.bsky.social after that. 121
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 06/07/2025Updated photo of the printers you can expect to see at my booth for @3dprintopia.bsky.social They should all be working. Most with Marlin 2.1.3b3+ or Klipper. Mostly limited to the power available. Cupcake shows signs that it will work once I fix the driver I blew up. 021
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 06/07/2025Big news. I finally added a Makerbot Cupcake CNC to the collection and it will be with the rest @3dprintopia.bsky.social This may actually be printing at the event. It turns out it was way better of than we thought until I fried a driver! 052
RainMotorsports @rainmotorsports.com · 04/07/2025If you hadn't been born I might not own 34 3D printers right now lol. My MakerBot Cupcake shows up tomorrow hopefully. Have to build a Mendel one of these days. I'm just obsessed with the machines. 020
