We had a visitor in the backyard before daybreak. Hard to distinguish, this was the best track from others in yard. Hind paw, claws towards the top of the imprint. 🐻 One of the reasons we pull all bird feeders in the evening! #PNW #Bears #BlackBears #Surprise

A well camouflaged bronze/yellow/olive frog with scattered black dots resting in a pot. The skin has texture of many different small shapes. Legs are tightly closed to the body, a little reddish color is seen on the hind leg.

Our 40 year old Red Sunset Maple Tree roots has Kretzschmaria deusta, also known as the burnt crust fungus or brittle cinder fungus. It will need to be removed within a couple years. 🍄☠️🥺 #FungiFriday #AlphabetChallange #WeekDforDark #PNW

The fruiting bodies are the gray with white edges. Over time the fungus becomes brittle and black. Parasitic on exposed roots and lower trunks of living hardwood trees, infected trees are prone to sudden collapse within 5 years.

Some other roots of the same tree infected by the disease. Kretzschmaria is one of the most destructive root and lower trunk rot pathogens of deciduous hardwoods.
