some moth perspective practice doodles
Doodle of an anthro moth, seen from a slightly low-down perspective. She's looking at the sky with a sense of wonder, and pointing up at something.Doodle of an anthro moth as seen from a birds-eye perspective; she's staring up at the viewer with big puppy-dog eyes as if to say "can i please have some of the boiling water you're cooking". There's a label that says "5'12" vs 6'0"".Doodle of an anthro moth from a particularly low angle. She's being lit from a spotlight up above, which is creating some very harsh shadows, basically entirely covering her up in shade from this particular angle.

if you look close you can even notice custom 'focus' points — the thumbnails are cropped by the CSS, but by manipulating a value using a jekyll data point i can say "hey, anchor this image at the top/bottom", or "at 80%"; so i can keep the important bit in shot. otherwise you get somethin like this:
Photo of a section of a website, showing an art piece. The art is cropped, and very poorly so; basically only showing the midsection of the character in the drawing.

a nice autumnal stroll [commission for @toadley.bsky.social]
color drawing of ribbit, from the amazing digital circus — a tall, green anthro frog with a lighter-green countershaded torso, eyelashes, and a red bow tie. she's taking a leisurely stroll through an orange park, with leaves falling around her.

moth cooling off
sketchy doodle of an anthro moth. she's leaning back against a brick wall, stretching one of her legs up and grabbing her heel with her hand. she's wearing a tanktop, some jorts, and running shoes; and is drinking from a cup of assorted beverage, through a bendy straw. she's staring at the viewer with a perceptibly annoyed expression.

for my game i popped a little thing in the copyright info — it's probably not the beeest descriptor for the specific stupid kind of generativeness as such? but i also don't want 'AI' key-worded on my page lol

This game doesn't contain the outputs of any generative algorithms.

progress on my #fallingblockjam game — different backgrounds for potential 'time', 'marathon', and 'vs' modes
Screenshot of a puzzle game. The backdrop is a wide plain on the wild west, with a cactus in view, and some mesas sprawled out over an open blue sky.Screenshot of a puzzle game. The game's being played against a wooden table at a saloon, with an overhead view of a drink on a coaster lining one of the corners. (I can't speak to whether or not the drink is alcoholic in nature.)Screenshot of a puzzle game. In contrast to the last two images, this screen has room for two — two game board grids, and separate blocks/scores. The backdrop is the double-doorway of a saloon, perfectly framing each game board.

making some good progress on my game for #fallingblockjam — we'll see if i've got the chops to actually wrap this up over the weekend. but i'm feeling happy with how it's working out so far!

oops wrong gif — i hope placing blocks on the grid directly is "falling" enough? but regardless i feel like my idea is pretty ace

it's gets funnier when you consider the whole point originally was to keep the 'chrome' as small as possible
Two panels of some kind of Google Chrome manifesto-comic.

Panel 1:
A close-up of a hand, pointing to the edge of a pixelated browser window. "Developers call the UI frame of the browser its 'chrome.'"

Panel 2:
A guy sits atop a browser window with a minimized chrome, opened to gmail. "We wanted to reduce the 'chrome' of Google Chrome. In the case of webapps, we've made it so you can launch them in their own streamlined window, without the URL box and browser toolbar."

working on getting the #playdate solitaire game ready for catalog — i hooked up a couple on-line scoreboards (because why not?), here's the screen that shows them. it'll show top 9 scores, your personal best (if applicable), and even has little animations for loading, empty, and failed score checks

hello! all the rest of my #playdate titles are now on sale in catalog, until 09.30.2026! 🔼 HEXA is half-off! 🔄 labsylle for its lowest price yet! ✨ all-star catalog titles for just $3! go check out what's available! play.date/games/studio... (...also, go wishlist my new thing ;P play.date/g/pesto)
Photo of Rae's Playdate Catalog games — Labsylle, Cloudburst, Mission LunaTrix, Traffic Jam, Bona Fido, HEXA, and First in... Line? are all spotlit at full opacity. The other titles are grayed out with notes, because they're not on sale — RowBot Rally 2 reads "you should wishlist this one :)", Rae's Solitaire reads "this one's not out yet"; and RowBot Rally reads "you just missed this one being on sale".

🛶 reminder: rowbot rally is currently nearly HALF OFF in the #playdate catalog!! it's an experimental boat-racing game with a cool story, award-winning gameplay and graphics; available for its lowest price ever. pick it up for $8: play.date/g/rbr ...and, wishlist the sequel(!!): play.date/g/pesto
Key art for RowBot Rally — the bunny/RowBot duo are tandem-rowing a boat down a river, back to back. Behind them as they exit the jungle are a bunch of robots who don't seem as kind-natured. In the far background, a very tall tower looms ominously against a red sky, with robot drones patrolling its perimeter.

i love the juxtaposition of this little line on the cover; like "you should learn to use this thing it's cool and the future! but uhh, we wrote it ourselves, because the thing is notoriously unreliable"
Tagline from the cover of the magazine in the above photo — "Written by experts, not AI".

i'm happy with how the audience is turning out, too — i was messing with geometry nodes and (with some more help haha) figured out how to vary the appearance of material based on their position (effectively "randomizing" each person) theyre all bald, and...faceless; but maybe i'll mess with it more
Shot of the game show set from behind the mic, on the main podium. There's an aqua bleacher full of faceless audience members, who have all got varying skin tones, shirt colors, and pants colors.

render testing — blender output (downscaled) vs. ordered dither vs. unordered dither i almost wanna see how it looks in motion before deciding — to me unordered dither always looks messy and weird if you let a still frame simmer, but in an FMV context it looks utterly stunning on the PD screen
Render of the top of one of the player lecterns. It's bright yellow. There are six square, glowing buttons for "U", "D", "L", "R", "B", "A".Same as the last photo, but dithered into pure black-and-white using an ordered dither. It's got a hatched pattern, and some banding artifacts around marked changes in contrast.Same as the first image, but dithered into black-and-white using a blue noise filter. It's a lot "fuzzier" than the last photo, and has some stray pixels here and there; but the gradation between different shades is a lot smoother.

i think something's coming together
Two blender viewport windows showing off a 3D game show set. On a big purple carpeted floor; there's a large yellow screen, three lecterns with large buttons on them for contestants (one purple, one aqua, and one white/red), a multi-colored podium in the middle for the host; and a large aqua stand of bleachers full of audience members. There are some stage lights hanging on metal structures above, and a purple curtain lines the back wall of the set.

the end game of control centers in cars is a blank dashboard, no pedals or stalks or anything; with a phone-sized touch screen in the middle of the steering wheel that's just got one of these on it
A screenshot of the mobile port of Grand Theft Auto. There's a virtual thumbstick for moving your character, and a couple virtual push-buttons to perform actions. (They're kinda unreliable as a control method even when you've got your full attention on the screen.)

takes me back to around 2022 — when i started getting into 3D modeling, and later in the year lost my drawing tablet. i did a lot of dicking around in blender around that time; it's been strangely nice to come back to. i had a friend guiding me through tricky bits in VC, such as These fucking beasts
3D model of an audience stand. It's full of primitive-lookin', untextured humanoid models.

rae @rae.wtf · 05/09/2026
modeling is fun
Two side-by-side camera shots, both depicting a 3D model of a lectern for some kind of game show. It's big, yellow, and angular; on the front is a large CRT display emitting a blank white image. On the top are six square, light-up buttons; labeled "u", "d", "l", "r", "b", and "a". On the side is a rotating crank, with a metallic arm and matching yellow grip.

"let's see how far i can get with a quick game idea over the weekend" [immediately spends like half an hour in blender with intent to model a game show set to pre-render cutscenes of] "uh oh."
A 3D model of a wired mic on an extendable stand; propped up on a large textureless plinth in a default Blender grid.

small moth doodle from a collaborative drawing session

close crop cuz i'm not 100% on this name yet...but making logos is fun
Extreme close-up of a logo design for a video game, such that you can't particularly tell what it says. There's a dark-blue border, white bold text, a music note-lookin' thing inside a golden ring (with a teal fill inside), and an askew golden star.

still WIP — especially the music, it's more of a metronome right now — but charting, cue timing functions (hit, barely, miss, extra) with specific animation states, and the general flow of a game are all working now. yippee!

doodle of an anthro moth, laying out on the floor. she's wearing a T-shirt and jorts, and has a lazy expression with her tongue sticking out. her outstretched arms are typing and mousing on an apple laptop in front of her, which is casting light on her face. there's an open can of soda and bag of chips laid out in arm's reach, as well
