As a longtime Fire Emblem fan, I gotta give Fortune's Weave a 7/10. This heavy dependence on micromanagement isn't what I want from Fire Emblem. This story with cowardly villains which most of them end up doing nothing 'til the final act isn't what I want either. Really, I just want a strategy game.

...did I mention this entire game is all on 1 save? That means if you fail a chapter's objective, start the chapter over from the beginning. Pick that "Restart Chapter" option by mistake? Unless you're quick on the "Quit Game" response, get ready to redo 90 minutes of videogame by complete accident.

Do I recommend you get a Switch 2 for it? No! You'll get a lot of game, but most of it won't be a fulfilling experience. Until I get the Anatolia route or the Orchel route that were cut from the initial game, I don't think I'm coming back ever since I beat the game already so what's the point?

Espcially with the dungeons because there is NO strategy in the turn-based fights involved beyond "make biggest number happen". And you'll spend most of their time there gathering the best loot and levels. I'd really like to elaborate further, but you need to be Renown Level 9 to unlock that convo.

Overall, I beat it, but it's less because I was enjoying my time, and more because I powered through it. If you thought Three Houses stretched you thin with its activities, Fortune's Weave is gonna turn you into goddamn Stretch Armstrong. And most of the time, the 'skip' button is your best friend.

The story is another matter where unless you picked a certain character to start the game with, they're practically less than a minor character by the time you get to Part 2 and then lose main character status by Act 3 to make room for some shoehorned avatar. The game is just badly structured.

Like I don't ever want this format for Fire Emlbem again. And if Nintendo actually lets this team put together an FE4 remake, I shudder to think of how modern IntSys and whoever their outsourcing partners will be tackle a game that's so delicate so as not to rip the game balance wide open.

and the game took me from euphoria to a general disgust, and self discovery that maybe I actually do hate modern Fire Emblem, and wish Intelligent Systems would just make a back to basics "PointA to PointB" adventure like they used to do in the GBA days. Nowadays, even IntSys is afraid to make that.

Like this 80 hour adventure is doubled by its demanding orders that you clear the other paths just to obtain basic character rights, like the ability to upgrade combat arts or the power over battalions. They took basic mechanics and abilities, and split across 4 "not so optional" optional routes

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is half incredible Fire Emblem maps for the first half with memorable characters and music, half slog of busywork and later half maps that just hate you and exist to waste your time. I wanted to love this game, but now I only wanna play it if the other 4 lords get paths.

Yeah, when it plays *that* theme after the Ryu SA3, I think I marked the hell out. This show was made for enthusiasts of Street Fighter who want to convey what makes fighting games so fun, and what makes the competitive experience amplify that love. I really had fun with this series. Season 2 cope?

Favorite Modern: Tekken 8. Best fighter on the market. Favorite Retro: Daytona USA. Timeless. Will never be replicated again. Overrated: Ducktales. Too high a pedestal compared to its NES contemporaries. Game I dislike: Call of Duty. It became the face of the FPS, to the detriment of video games.

I cannot control my excitement for this game now that fingers are on D-Pad and buttons. By about 20 minutes into training mode, I was doing things like this. High damage, and that’s not even taking into account things like Assemble adding 16k to the equation or assists that would probably scale dmg.

Granted, for something like the PC market, phasing out physical was needed long before the hardware stopped including a D: . Digital distribution was the only way the little guys got any distribution at all, even back in the 90s. Shareware and downloading a demo introduced us to a game called DOOM.

What Sonic means to me is getting home from school at 3:30 every day in 1993 to watch the cartoon. It's sticking different Genesis games into the Sonic & Knuckles lock-on top to see if there is, in fact, a way. It's pulling out a Golden book where Sonic can't find his sneakers. Happy 35th, Sonic!

If there's ever been a movie franchise based off a video game that made the most of its second chance, it's Mortal Kombat. Mortal Kombat II made it clear that they addressed a lot of the complaints of the first film, and... Well, remember MK Annihilation? This is MK Annihilation done right. 8/10

Mixtape may not work as well within the confines of expected interactivity of a video game, but its template and setpieces are enhanced by interactivity. You don't see many "Interactive Soundtrack" games, but it's just enough, nevermind the great writing. Life needs more secret handshake QTEs. 9/10

Pragmata is a lot of things. It's an intense battle of multitasking. It's a heartfelt father-daughter dynamic. It's a satisfying loop of combat, even when the game throws its craziest rooms at you. And it's Capcom knocking it out of the park with another new IP. It's GOTY for me right now. 10/10

Made it to Master Ball Rank yesterday after competing in @skrawvgc.bsky.social 's big Grand Champions Festival. It's been a busy but productive weekend for this giddy old man and his competitive Pokemon journey. There's not much else to say. Just happy I did it with guys like Charizard and Lucario.
