The thundering lack of awareness. My gob, it is smacked.
Engaged in a flirtatious conversation at a bar in Manhattan, 23-year-old Gary stood with a Guinness in hand as he explained to a woman why he took an engineering job at Palantir, the data analytics company cofounded by Alex Karp and Peter Thiel. Raking in a $250,000 salary would allow him to help pay off his parents’ mounting medical bills, he explained.
Gary wasn’t met with sympathy. Medical debt, the woman told him, was “not an excuse to work somewhere like that.” She was referring, of course, to Palantir’s controversial work with governments, including the US and Israel, which use the company’s surveillance tools for law enforcement and military operations.Gary has resorted to saying he works in AI. “Even that gets some pretty bad responses sometimes,” he says. His Hinge profile doesn’t mention his employer. And sometimes he makes up stories out of thin air to justify working for Palantir—like that line about the medical debt. His parents don’t have any, nor are they ill.

Well, got my desktop CNC assembled, finally. Lots of good news/bad news with the thing, but nothing terrible. Mainly the good news? It's almost entirely modular, off the rack and open source! Which is also the bad news.
A 3018 desktop CNC on my kitchen table. It's been upgraded to the 3040 extension with various other mods added as well, like limit switches, an emergency stop, extra height, reinforcement, etc.

Wait no there it is
WndrCo, which Katzenberg co-founded with former Dropbox exec Sujay Jaswa, recently invested in a real-time GenAI video startup called Reactor. Variety notes the former Disney and DreamWorks leader had also reportedly been in talks to create a new AI video startup with the former head of OpenAI’s Sora text to video model, which was shut down in April and officially discontinued the API this week.

Well, it isn't pretty, but it has two filtered intakes and a powered 120mm exhaust fan with a laundry bag to catch sawdust and such while letting the air through ... We'll see how it works in a few days.
A Sterlite container pictured in the previous post. It's had holes cut in the top fitted with filters, and a hole cut in the back with a powered 120mm fan mounted to it exhausting into a laundry bag.

As CNC enclosures goes, it's what I'd call "cheap as shit."

It's essentially a plastic box and they're asking $75 USD for it.Listing for:

"Sterilite 90 Quart Large Storage Bin, Clear Plastic Storage Container with Snap-On Lid, White"

It is also a plastic box of approximately the same size, for which they're asking $12 USD

So Netflix is using "AI" to upscale old movies and shows, with obvious results. Using an algorithm to upscale old video isn't a terrible thing, but to do it right you need to have someone willing to go over every frame. Trouble is, dipshits think it's magic.

Well that's weird. What about being known as an immigration agent would be publicly embarrassing? And why would being known by the public to be working for ICE deter them from enforcing immigration? Is the FBI saying the public doesn't support immigration policy? Nah, can't be.
“The tactic is intended to generate public embarrassment and deter immigration enforcement activity,” the FBI added. It did not provide any specifics on where or when it observed the supposed doxxing operation, and conceded all information in the memo was “not finally evaluated intelligence.”

People who love tribbles ... will love the puppets. Uh. Huh. So they've just been jingling keys, then.
To illustrate his point, Myers runs down the wide variety of episodes Season 4 has offered so far: "I think people who love the Tribbles are probably going to love the puppet episode. I think people who love some of the more classic ones will love Episode 6 [the real-time thriller 'Off-Hour'] because that is a straight fastball down the middle for what is a great classic 'Star Trek.'" For him, "the goal was to create a show that reached out to more people, but also pleased the people who love the show, to give them some surprise, a new version, a point of view about things that they hadn't gotten to see before, and also to win people over who never thought of 'Star Trek' and thought they'd check out a crazy show that would do something as insane as puppets. That's our goal."

The computer revamp continues apace. Made a new mid-plate with a pair of 120mm fans and air deflectors to bring in air from the bottom of the case and move it over the motherboard. Sanding, polishing and painting these things was a GIANT PAIN, but they came out looking okay ...
A pair of slim 15mm thick 120mm PC case fans with 90 degree air deflectors. The deflectors are 3D printed in white to match the fans and the rest of the case. Also visible is the cooling loop resevoir and the custom mid-plate the deflectors are mounted to.

The star also attempted to explain his decision not to become embroiled in political issues.

"I am not complicit," he wrote. "I have my personal views on this devastating conflict. Just because I choose not to speak publicly, it doesn't mean I don't have them, and it doesn't mean I don't care.

"Nor does it mean I don't support causes in my own, personal way."

The only real solution I've found where these velcro straps designed to hold the connectors together, but nobody sells them anymore. I've had to make my own from a roll of velcro cable tie, using the product description which doubles as a template thanks to including the measurements.
Instructions for EZ-DIY's rgb velcro connector ties.Dimensions of EZDIY-FAB's ARGB cable ties: 13mm x 110mm, with slots in the material evenly spaced for passing the connectors through.

If you do any computer stuff you'd have seen that the default RGB connector is this stupid thing. No locking mechanism. No real tension in the connectors. They come apart if you look at them wrong. How did this reach the top as the best option?
What has become the standard ARGB three pin connector, with no means to hold the connectors together whatsoever.

I can't imagine the Tetris rightsholders are a larger company than Hasbro, but just the threat of a lawsuit from them was enough to get the White House to take down their racist Tetris clone. If you won't even threaten to sue the fuckers when you more than have the ability, you grant permission.

I just started watching a restoration video where a guy was working on one of those great old wooden stereo cabinets, but he didn't know how to fix the turntable so he just replaced it with a Bluetooth amplifier and I cannot articulate what this has done to my soul
A 60s/70s stereo cabinet, only in place of the turntable is a tiny Bluetooth amplifier taking up a fraction of the space.
